It’s For The Birds
During a harvest moon there are other advantages for the bird lovers of our planet. This is the perfect time to watch the birds migrate past the light that emits from the moon. Some studies have proven that birds rely on the Harvest moon to migrate from one area to another. They have also proven that the birds wait for this moon to begin their migration.
Gazing Upon a Harvest Moon
The moon during the year rises about 50 minutes later each day, but near autumn equinox the time shortens to 30 minutes. Some years there is an extra treat for moon watchers when they do their gazing between dusk and dawn. Wildfires in North America and dust storms in Africa sometimes fill our air with aerosols. A low hanging harvest moon can give an array of colors that is not usually seen. There is also an added treat to watching a harvest moon. This is called moon illusion because the rising or setting moon looks bigger than when it does high in the sky.

@Ray Beverage
Thanks for posting Ray. I went to get it because I didn’t realize you had posted the video. It is still a great song!
We went to Asian Garden. The food was wonderful.
I hope you and your family had a great harvest moon.
FYI: Osbourn is at Potomac tonight and BOTH teams have
female kickers. Don’t remember that ever happening an
area football. Both young ladies, I have been told, didn’t
seek the spots, but are good at sports, especially soccer,
and were asked to come out for the football team.
Note that OHS defeated Garfield last week 3-0 on
Samantha Frowen’s field goal.
What is this world coming to? Do they open up the girls’ locker room for them?
The University of Maryland has the ugliest new uniforms. They look like redbirds running up and down the field.
Second ugliest award has to go to Va Tech.
Read “Bearing Drift” about thousands of out-of-state volunteers coming to Virginia
to canvass for Cuccinelli. Thousands!!!
MacAuliff can match them with union folks from out of state if he has to. You know, God’s Army against the demon union communists. [sarcasm button on]
Where is Wolverine? Cargo…..summon him up please.
Wolverine, did you tell us your lawyer was arrested for murdering his mother in law?
What ever happened with that?
The lawyer is female. She has been charged with murdering her wealthy widower father and then giving the hospital a non-resuscitation statement containing the forged signature of her father while he was still clinging to life in his hospital bed. He died a couple of hours later. She has just been slapped with an additional charge: murdering the live-in female companion of her father in the same house and on the same night. The killings were by gun. After the first murder charge, the lady forked over $1 million in bail money. Nobody knows where she got it. She denies everything. It’s like a for real game of Clue.
I thought I remembered you telling such a story. Good heavens. When is the trial? Where is the trial? I hope you got your retainer back.
Why did she do it? Keep us posted on this one.
9 million new iphone 5 phones were sold last weekend. UFB. My granddaughter just had to have one, taking up our last upgrade until last May. Grrrrr. I will just hobble along with my old Samsung Galaxy 3.
Reviews are giving high marks to the new, improved Siri. Not sure I am all that impressed if the one on my ipad is indicative. My attempts at dictation didn’t pan out so well.
And to think I hate having a camera on my flip phone. Yes, I did say flip phone.

Speaking of snake handling, is anyone watching the NatGeo show on snake handling?
I am somewhat speechless and also grossed out. I can’t stand watching the snakes eat mice.
Those people are very sincere and very much believe in their faith. Very weird.
Are you talking about Snake Salvation? Yeah, I stumbled upon it channel surfing, before I knew it I watched 2 full episodes. It reminded me of a southern baptist church I went to as a very young kid for a few years. Pretty much the same, minus snakes… speaking in tongues, convulsing on the floor, jumping up and down, running around, crying, you name it. Everyone looked at me and my brother like we were Satan’s offspring because we weren’t doing the same. I suppose I just didn’t feel the spirit like they did and I think it’s that experience that kinda turned me off with going to church.
Yea, Snake Salvation. Isn’t that the weirdest show? I have never been to any church like that. My mother would never let me go to church with friends because she was afraid I would get tangled up with weirdos. I think more to the point was that she didn’t want them to come visit her after I had been to their church, looking back on it.
I am sort of hooked on Snake Salvation. (NO, I am not converting.) There used to be snake handlers down in Scottsville, below Charlottesville when I was growing up. I think they got shut down.
I guess I am not sure if I think they should be shut down. Why is it anyone’s business if they want to have rattle snakes bite them? I do think they should leave their young people out of harms way. I don’t mind laws about that.
I’ve seen this show once or twice. There’s plenty of snake handlers just up the road in Innwood, Wva. In fact I think Snake Salvation has filmed there too. There’s no way I’m worshiping with snakes.
I didn’t know that. I think these particular snake handlers are in Tennessee but I could be wrong.
Looks like the congressional republicans have buckled on the shutdown, according to the WaPost. Obamacare will take effect next week as planned. Cruz’s filibuster accomplished nothing. Once again, the president has defeated his opponents. The tea party is irrelevant
Apparently a local blogger would rather keep his misinformation rather than approve my comment about who really paid for Marty’s game ticket. It was Marty. But when a lie works, why correct it.
I don’t follow The Sheriff’s site, but apparently he is, more than any other blogmeister I’m aware of, very aggressive about screening out other points of view. I take that to be a sign of great dishonesty and weakness. Even someone as goofy as Greg lets me squeeze a word in edgewise. While he may not like my opinion, he realizes that it drives additional comments. The Sheriff appears to be in a pure propaganda mode. Too bad.
He very much seems to want to squash anyone seen as getting in the way of Pete Candland. It’s too bad. Pete has some good points that are often overlooked because of the mindset created by reading that blog. A blog of anonymous people, most of whom are doing hero worship of Pete Candland doesn’t do much to make you like him. Pete needs to do something about it. He is really the only one who can. Maybe if he felt more politically secure, he would flush out that detraction and work on his own without his adoring sycophants taking crack shots at everyone else, all while singing …oh Pete You’re the real deal. Gag!
It seems like there is always a war with someone, either other supervisors or county staff.
That blog’s sole purpose appears to be to take out anyone who might run for Chairman next time around. It’s primary targets appear to be Nohe and Stewart. (The sycophants remind me of Greg’s ditto heads and his blog’s primary purpose – the election of Republican candidates.)
Absolutely. It really is a shame because it’s pure political propaganda without regard for the truth. For instance, I know that Marty bought his own ticket in the much discussed (over there ) Redskins-gate. I don’t know from the Nohe family either but from another source.
Pete could stand on his own without all that crap following him. First Jamie’s blog and now this. Do we all just look stupid? (same people involved)
I actually like Pete without his cheerleaders and props. However, with that going on, I couldn’t support him. He reaps the benefits of the propaganda machine. That’s also how I got about Jackson Miller when he was reaping the benefits of Greg doing a character assassination on a campaign worker for Jackson’s opponent. He needed to put a stop to it. Pete needs to put a stop to it.
Looks like Wendy Davis has decided to run for higher office… just stumbled upon her new site:

Yea, Peterson, I just bet you stumbled on it. Reminder, your comments are moderated first. Don’t embarrass yourself.
I don’t know about weird, I suppose it’s not all that weird to me because I went to a church exactly like it (sans snakes) for a few years when I was a kid. I agree with you, why bother them, if they want to get bit by snakes, let em as long as no kids are in danger.
Watching the show is a bit addictive though, you just sit back and wait for someone to get bit. Kind of like how some people watch car races just for the crash…
