This week the new fall shows start.  Tonight was a particularly busy  one. From 10-11  I was recording 2 programs and watching the 3rd one on my ipad.  That’s dedication to one’s TV shows.  So the point of all of this is that I don’t feel like doing a post tonight.  I am still dwelling on the surprise outcome of Broadchurch on BBC America.

The Cuccinelli/McAuliffe debate was tonight.  I believe Cuccinelli was abducted and a moderate gentle man was sent in to replace him.  Cuccinelli sure wasn’t true to his base.  McAuliffe let him get away with too much.  So I guess we have a 4th person funning …errr…running–Cuccinelli the moderate.

Senator Cruz made an ass of himself for nearly 24 hours.  What a waste of time.  Green Eggs and Ham, for the record, is about trying new things before making up your mind.  Bad choice to make your point, Dumb-ass Cruz.

The stock market is jittery over the possible shut down of government.  Ker ching  Ker ching.!  Thanks fools in the House for making me lose money.  The Dow has dropped for 5 days in a row.

What ever happened to the new voting laws that were going to be passed?  Mr. Howler thought he could vote absentee because he was 65.  That wasn’t on the application.  So who got their voting rights impeded by the General Assembly this past session?

First class stamps will go up 3 cents to $0.49 cents to mail a letter.  why not just make it $0.50 and give it a rest for a while?

Does anyone have any new shows that are worth watching?

24 Thoughts to “This and that…”

  1. I’m sorry for you that the Senate puts its agenda before the good of the country and caused the stock market to drop.

    Cruz was awesome.

When the Senate refunds the ACA and sends it back to the House, the House should then amend the bill to have ACA start immediately, in full, with waivers, and with all taxes active.
It the Democrats want it..they should get it……good and hard.
Then we can sit back and watch the Democrats scramble to justify their subsequent voting down of the funding for the ACA.

    1. Cargo, surely you are kidding. Bwaaaaahahahahahahahahaha. Tell me, what was Cruz’s objective while making an ass of himself? The zenith of his ridiculousness was when he read Green Ham and Eggs, which was about some jerk hating something that he had never tried. After he tried it, he liked it. What point does that make?

Do you really think the stock market is dropping and skittish because of Ted Cruz or the Senate?

It’s dropping because of the chance of the government closing and the nation defaulting on its debt. Both of those issues are very unsettling to the stock markets.

Check out what happened 2 years ago last August.

I could comfortably retire on the amount of money that imbecile pols have cost me in the markets with these infantile ideas about shutting down the government and repudiating sovereign debts. Aside from the sheer political cynicism motive for doing these things, the possibility that any adult could think this might be a good idea probably reflects a complete lack of elementary and middle school training on basic public finance issues. We are truly a nation of fiscal morons, led by fiscal morons.

BTW, those who advocate the dismantling of Social Security and pensions in favor of private retirement investments need to explain how these private retirement funds are to be protected against predation by stupid Members of Congress, people who can tank private markets faster than greased lightning simply by making ignorant remarks on the House floor (or worse yet, actually voting on measures that truly threaten the national economy).

    1. Totally agree. I know more than one person who postponed retirement because of the crash and then the mini crash 2 years ago over the debt ceiling. The markets are skittish.

  4. Rick Bentley

The Daily Show had a particularly good segment about Cruz’ nonsense last night.

    1. Yes it did. I thought about posting it but got side tracked. @Rick

  5. @Scout
    Good point.

But the same can be said for SS. That is also under threat by Congress’ stupidity.

I’d rather have all the money taken from me for SS and take my chances.

    1. That isn’t an option. So when you hit 66 and having nothing to live on, do you just become a street person?

What is Congress doing to social security now?

What shows were you recording/watching? Breaking Bad wraps up this Sunday. I didn’t think I’d get sucked in on that show, but now think it’s one of the best I’ve seen on TV because it operates on multiple levels.

    1. Last night I was watching Criminal Minds, Law and Order (2 hours), Nashville, and Broadchurch. The only one I could watch on ipad was Broadchurch because it wasn’t on network TV.

I am also watching Boardwalk Empire, finished up with Newsroom and Ray Donovan, and am now hitting Masters and Johnson and Homeland starting this Sunday. I got the early release of Masters and Johnson and it is great. (Typical Showtime though….loud sex)

I also watch Hell on Wheels, Rookie Blue, and Chicago Fire.

What has happened to Army Wives and Dallas?

Should I do breaking bad on demand?

    You’ve never seen Breaking Bad?

    Watch it, you’ll love it.

We’ve watched Boardwalk Empire and Newsroom as well – also Nurse Jackie. I’m waiting for Homeland. We’ve become the poster couch-potatoes for binge-watching once it’s dark out – whether British and Scandinavian cop shows or Netflix’s latest.

Breaking Bad can be tough to watch but has exceptionally good acting for some characters – not too many 2-D characters.

    1. I don’t care for Boardwalk Empire as much this year. I liked what’s her name. What became of her? (Nucky’s wife) The kid is still alive an kicking.

I love binge watching. I actually rewatched all 6 years of the Sopranos last summer. I did it in about 2 weeks. That requires some binge.

A really good one, if you get on demand, is bbc America’s BroadChurch. There are 8 episodes.

I am also watching Cedar Cove on Hallmark. Its sort of like Northern exposure of the Puget Sound except not as humorous.

    2. I just looked up Army Wives. Lifetime has ‘honorably discharged’ it. (their words not mine)

Dallas will be back in 2014.

I am glad that Revenge is back next Sunday.

We watched the first year (or two?) of The Killing. DH couldn’t even stand to see that much rainy weather on TV. We’ve always battled over whether we should move to the Pacific Northwest or the Southwest in retirement.

    1. And here you sit….I love the summers in the Northwest but the winters must be the pits. Lewis and /clark said it was the worst weather they had ever endured.

The southwest isn’t green enough. Maybe you could live in the NW in summer and then scurry to the SW for winter.

    2. I never saw The Killing. Cedar Cove doesn’t have rain. It must be in the shadow of the Olympics like Sequim.

Green Ham and Eggs, eh? Doesn’t beat old Huey Long’s shrimp and oyster recipes in the 1930’s or his discussion of “potlikkers.” That ring a bell, Moon? Potlikkers, I mean.

Ha ha – here we sit! The DC area has a lot of positives – close to both the shore and mountains, lots of decent galleries, reasonably convenient airports, good train to NYC (when it doesn’t break down). But the daily traffic is the pits.

I once spent a rainy Fourth of July as a tourist in Eugene, OR and was one of perhaps three people in the crowd using an umbrella. Maybe I’m not quite prepared to pass as a native.

    1. I have never had an umbrella when I needed one in my entire life.

I don’t even think I own one now.

“Green Ham and Eggs, for the record, is about trying new things before making up your mind. Bad choice to make your point, Dumb-ass Cruz.”

(Isn’t it Green Eggs and Ham? Not Green Ham and Eggs)

You do realize that he was reading that to his kids for their bedtime story right? You can see his little girls reaction in this link:

    http://www.bizpacreview.com/2013/09/25/cruz-reads-bible-stories-green-eggs-and-ham-to-his-kids-on-senate-floor-84047

    1. Yes, green eggs. It doesn’t matter why he read it. I also don’t believe his crap. He should have chosen a different book. His attempts at recovery fool no one.
