Signs of fall include kales and cabbages, mums and pansies.
Winter pansies will bloom all winter and even survive sub-zero temperatures for a fairly short period of time. Once spring gets here, they will bloom hardily until it gets really hot in June.
The ornamental kale and cabbage get fairly leggy by spring. Mums are strange. No comment.
I am trying to figure out why my husband’s truck which is fairly ancient and a year older than my car, is worth more than 2,000 dollars more than my SUV. My vehicle has fewer miles more features (like seat warmers, leather seats, electronic windows).
The county told him that trucks don’t lose their value like SUVs do. I think they are ripping him off. Any opinions or inside information? The truck is a 2002. Geez. Its valued at $6700. You have to be kidding me.
Moon, you’ve got mail. My blood is boiling. And mom didn’t do it for once. 👿
I read, I saw, I am enraged on your behalf.
If Cuccinelli cares about victims it is a recent thing. He obviously didn’t care about you.
So now it´s done. Close-shut-down is a done deal.
For the upcoming debt ceiling battle, I support President Obama!
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure.”
“Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership.”
NUMBER ONE takeaway from this Obmacare/budget/debt ceiling showdown?
We need to lessen our dependency on the Fed’l government for…well…everything. Then it wouldn’t matter if it “shuts down.”
Don’t look now but Ken and Terry are now tied in the polls: http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/cuccinelli-mcauliffe-virginia-governor/2013/09/30/id/528456#ixzz2gQctcDpz
In Newsmax? That’s old news. The rest of the world sees it a little differently. On the other hand, the democrats should not become too complacent.
Newsmax is interesting in that you can find things there that you can’t find anywhere else. It reminds me of an online National Inquirer. Of course, no one takes it seriously except those who don’t know any better.
I would think the shutdown would be absolutely fatal for Cuccinelli. For Republican statewide candidates in recent years to be successful, one or both of two ingredients are necessary: very low turnout: and/or very low quality opposition from the Dems. We have the latter in McAuliffe. The problem now for Cuccinelli is that, if this silly buggers destruction of the national government continues for very long, it will drive turnout, particularly in Northern Virginia. That spells disaster for Cuccinelli in November.
Cuccinelli is down by 5 according to RCP. That’s only through 9/29.
The moderates, democrats and anyone else who opposes Cuccinelli should be on guard for complacency.
NOW HE’S DONE IT!
“President Barack Obama says he would “think about changing” the Washington Redskins’ name if he owned the football team…..”

I think we could deal with the “Redskins” issue without assistance from the President of the United States (although at least he’s not designing offensive plays for them a la President Nixon).
Corey just made a huge A-hole out of himself by blowing up at the board. They all voted to defer the tax penalty for 45 days because so many people are federal workers or contractors who don’t have any idea when their pay checks are coming in.
Corey ranted and railed at them, called them irresponsible, and said he was disappointed.
Correct me if I am wrong, but he isn’t their boss. He sets the agenda.
Shame on you Corey. You were out of control or else you were really a really bad actor.
The reason for the deferral of payment was because federal workers aren’t getting their paychecks when they are supposed to, through no fault of their own.
Corey talked like those people were trying to shirk their responsibility and the other BOCS members were aiding and abetting them. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Corey, you sounded like a first class, judgemental jerk. You owe the citizens of Prince William County, your fellow board members, <—(you are not their boss), and especially the federal workers and contractors an apology. You were out of line.
Doesn’t that make him less RINO?
Who? The Core-man?
I am disappointed in his behavior. He knows better than to treat his colleagues like that. He has this mistaken concept that he is their boss.
I was actually pleased with the supervisors today. They talked with each other and collaborated over dropping the penalty and interest for however long. They actually TALKED to each other. That’s the way things should be done.
Wow, Corey!! Well, Corey should have staff look into some of the very delinquent real estate tax bills. I see real estate tax bills every day for work. I saw one property in the almighty Dominion Valley Country Club that had over $35K past due. That’s serious money. I’d like to know how much money Corey thinks the taxpayers are “stealing” from the county with this extension. There are also, tracts of land on Bull Run Mountain that have had NO real estate taxes paid since the 80’s. Corey, if you think the county needs some more bucks. I seriously suggest again that you have staff start looking into those HUGE real estate delinquencies.
Corey apparently wants to live off fees and fines. That is all that was deferred…sharing interest and fines. His behavior was embarrassing.
People were wondering if the Mall itself is closed……well, accept for the favored few….

To assuage fears about a default:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics-live/liveblog/live-updates-the-shutdown-4/?hpid=z2#c1e3ada3-dc00-41d8-92cb-327c5c814d82
Moody’s says in the memo dated Oct. 7.
” We believe the government would continue to pay interest and principal on its debt even in the event that the debt limit is not raised, leaving its creditworthiness intact,” the memo says. “The debt limit restricts government expenditures to the amount of its incoming revenues; it does not prohibit the government from servicing its debt. There is no direct connection between the debt limit (actually the exhaustion of the Treasury’s extraordinary measures to raise funds) and a default.”
@Cargosquid
cargo tell that the grandma when her check does not come in on time. Or the contractor that does not get paid but still has salary to pay to employees.
When I ran my small business and my credit line was tapped out I did have to jump and scramble in order to meet my cash flow needs. One can do that for a little while but then things happen and you have to start delaying some payments. Imagine the people on SSI when their check gets delayed – that they were depending on to pay their rent or mortgage.
The people who think this will be all rosie are in for a rude awakening – with just the shutdown you see faux news talking about the NPS and other shutdowns – I suspect faux news will be the loudest screamer if grandma does not get her check on the 3rd of the month.
I am going to bet in your camp. Pat. Faux News will be crying a river over grandma. When it happens I will be cussing up a storm.
I wish I could find that wonderful chart I saw 2 days ago about when the treasury has to pay out SS, Medicare, interest, etc. It was great.
@Pat.Herve
Since I’m one of those waiting for checks….I’ll just tell myself.
“Hey Squid! Your check isn’t going to be on time…or maybe at all. The gov’t decided to pay the cowboy poetry grant ahead of yours. They’ve decided to “prioritize” wants instead of needs and spend money on closing and manning open air monuments and kicking paying customers off of federal lands….losing income. They’ve decided to subsidize health care and “save” money!”
There. And guess what? I still want them to cut spending.
I wonder how much money we could save by shutting down assorted departments…say the Dept of Education and applying that money to higher priorities? Or killing the Dept of Homeland Security and returning those functions back to the appropriate agencies? Or pulling our troops from Afghanistan starting TOMORROW, since we now have no reason to be there with OBL dead.
I’m sure that we can find the money somewhere: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/04/09/wasteful-government-spending/2063511/
What I find amazing is that article spoke about how president Obama has been working since he took office to get rid of duplication and waste. yet not one word of credit. But yet you say you don’t hate him. Could have fooled me.
That’s sort of how I see the states…50 ways of reinventing the same wheel. But we wouldn’t want to have big government, now would we?
@Pat.Herve
Your statements just reinforce the idea that we depend too much on the federal gov’t and we need to stop doing so.
I tried being a good citizen and set up an account.
Important: Your account couldnt be created at this time. The system is unavailable.
Yep…this just fills me with confidence and warm fuzzy feelings. We are in the very BEST of hands.
So far, Obamacare is meeting my every expectation and prediction.
Sometimes we just can’t waltz in and get waited on immediately. Instant gratification just isn’t in the cards on this one. Most of us understand it. You have 6 months.
I want to find dental insurance. It doesn’t have to be done today.
You’ve got plenty of time, CS, so be patient. But keep in mind, your demographic is not what is essential to the system. We need to be certain that the young and healthy (but vulnerable to catastrophic health crises) are all enrolled.
@Scout
After finding out that they want all your bank info, SSN, and you are forced to agree that all the info will be shared with law enforcement or audit if they feel that you’ve broken the rules…..and once you are signed up for an account, you CANNOT delete the info…… Just to see the rates, I’m not signing up for anything. I was just trying to find out if I have to since I’m at the VA.
They promise to protect all of our sensitive info. And they have a bridge to sell me.
Oh well, its not like they are forcing us to sign up with a gun to our head. Oh. Wait…..
@Cargosquid
cargo – you should have received the information from the VA in the mail stating that you did not have to sign up as the VA coverage you have is considered adequate. You can go to alternative methods to find out the cost (go to the individual companies). The purpose to share information with law enforcement is to see if one has committed fraud. I would think that the tea party with all their talk about waste fraud and abuse would want audit capabilities.
There is no gun to your head – you have coverage – and there is no gun to anyone else’s head as they can choose to not sign up.
I’ll have to check my mail…..maybe I missed it.
Sharing with law enforcement should be on a warrant basis. And why do they need the information BEFORE you accept a plan. Once you give this info…you cannot delete it. If you decide to opt out and pay the “tax” instead….. why should they need that information? Just another pressure point.
Sad that this is what we get for 634 million + dollars.
You probably did miss it as it was sent 6-8 weeks ago.
Does one really need to get a warrant to conduct an audit? Wouldn’t that prevent an audit from taking place. Just because there is an audit does not mean a crime has taken place, whereas a warrant assumes a crime has taken place. And when the audits do not take place I am sure the tea party will be there to complain about the lack of audits.
Yes, one needs to prove who they are and needs to validate income before it can give you pricing an any of the plans available. You can look up some sample plans here – https://www.healthcare.gov/health-plan-information/ but the pricing will not reflect your pricing, as you may qualify for a subsidy but with an existing plan I do not think you would be eligible for a subsidy.
One needs a warrant to search financial records. The records are accessible by law enforcement.
There is absolutely no reason to need all that info to present pricing. One should be able to present their information….and get the relevant pricing. If they change that information….. then they get different pricing. EVERY insurer does that.
Thanks for the link….. How did you find that…..exploring the website…I don’t see a link to that.
Looks like The Duggars are going to Ricmond.
TV’s Duggar family to campaign for Cuccinelli
Posted: Oct 11, 2013 2:54 AM EDT Updated: Oct 11, 2013 2:54 AM EDT
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – A busload of reality television stars – all from the same family – will cruise through Virginia to support Republican Ken Cuccinelli’s gubernatorial campaign.
The Duggar family from the TLC series “19 Kids and Counting” is planning a three-day bus tour starting Monday. The Duggars will make stops in Lynchburg, Richmond, Virginia Beach, Fredericksburg and Woodbridge in support of Cuccinelli, the father of seven.
The tour is sponsored by Family Research Council Action. The executive director of the conservative advocacy group is 25-year-old Josh Duggar, the oldest of the 19 Duggar children.

Big news: Dan Snyder is changing the name of the Redksins!
http://www.theonion.com/articles/washington-redskins-change-their-name-to-the-dc-re,34161/
Just a laugh for everybody.
The relationship between the Tea Party Republicans and the rest of us reminds me of a bad marriage. In this story, the man in this marriage will be analogous to the Tea Party Republicans, and the woman is analogous to the rest of us.
The couple in this story had trouble with money and credit card spending. By 1992 they agreed that they had a real problem at hand. They agreed to put the woman in charge of spending for a while. From 1992-2000 she was conscientious about reducing debt, as a priority. By 2000 they had no monthly deficit – they now earned as much as they spent, and the future looked bright.
At this point the man insisted on taking over the finances again – after all, it was half his money. Almost immediately he decided that less of his money should go into the family pot – he started to put 10% less in.
Next, he invested in some get rich quick schemes with “Supply Side Incorporated”. His wife objected, at which point he berated her and told her that she didn’t understand the nature of spending. “You need to spend money to make money”. Of course, like Ralph Kramden, his investments never did pay off, and they are still paying out each month on these pipe dreams.
Then, he decided to custom build a large security system. His wife thought it was overkill, but he insisted – if this massive system could prevent one intruder from breaking into their house and harming their children, it was worth it. How could she not understand this – did she secretly hate her children? Against her objections, he undertook a very large monthly commitment.
Next, he undertook an expensive peacekeeping trip to the Middle East, over his wife’s objections. By this point the debts were mounting again, and even larger than before. A great chunk of what they earned was committed or going to pay interest on loans, and it would take many years of frugality before they could ever see a balanced budget again.
At this point his wife took over the finances again. She came in one day and told him about a new health care plan she was going to put them into. It would provide the same level of coverage for them, would barely cost anything more, and would over the course of future years have a possibility to greatly reduce their cost of insurance.
The man became furious at the thought of a single dime being used by his wife towards possible improvement. Who the heck was she to do this? Was she trying to make him look bad? That was HIS MONEY. Angrily, he pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot her and them himself in the head unless she called the insurance company and undid the plan.
The man was taken away by the police and the woman divorced him. Would that we could all agree to proceed in this fashion with the Tea Party and the GOP.
I forgot to add a paragraph in where the guy agrees to pay for all his older relatives’ prescription drugs, too …
A friend just sent me the following:
Just announced: Washington Redskins Will Change Their Name
The Washington Redskins are going to change their name because of all the hatred, violence, and hostility associated with their name.
From now on they will be known simply as the Redskins.
That actually a cute joke, SA. Thanks for sharing.
@Second Alamo
Perfect! They have no grounding in Washington to begin with!
Personally, I thought the Maryland Crabs would have suited the team.
