Sarah Palin, who supported losing Senate candidate Steve Lonegan in New Jersey and the efforts to defund Obamacare in a government funding bill that led to the shutdown, said the focus after losing both fights should be on 2014.
“Friends, do not be discouraged by the shenanigans of D.C.’s permanent political class today. Be energized. We’re going to shake things up in 2014,” Palin wrote on her Facebook page early Thursday morning. “Rest well tonight, for soon we must focus on important House and Senate races. Let’s start with Kentucky — which happens to be awfully close to South Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi — from sea to shining sea we will not give up. We’ve only just begun to fight.”
In each of the states she mentioned, a Republican incumbent senator that has been a target of tea party challengers is up for reelection in 2014.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is up for reelection in Kentucky in 2014, Sen. Lindsey Graham is up for reelection in South Carolina and Sen. Lamar Alexander is up in Tennessee. In Mississippi, incumbent Republican Sen. Thad Cochran’s term expires in 2014, but he has not yet announced whether he will seek reelection.
“What happened in D.C. tonight reminds us of how hard we must fight in 2014 to return to a government of the people, by the people, for the people,” Palin wrote. “The way forward is to elect leaders who will listen to us; and if they don’t, we must hold them accountable on Election Day — no matter what party. Let’s commit to continue to be in the trenches fighting for those who stand on principle over politics, despite the odds.”
Has Palin ever supported a candidate that has won? I can’t think of anyone. Elena and I were talking today about Senator McCain. What would have happened if he had chosen a real running mate with some credibility? I expect there is a 50-50 chance he would be in the White House now. Plenty of moderates and independents liked him. Once they saw Palin, however, they headed for the hills, thinking they didn’t want someone that vapid to be a heart beat away from the presidency.
Then there is the fact that Palin is geographically challenged–STILL. Those states are not close to each other. Maybe in Alaskan terms but not in lower 48 terms. The map is included for those of us who were scratching out heads over the proximity of the states.
Then there is the threat of a primary to well respected main-stream Republicans. That’s getting old. I hope that the American people have seen what happens when some of these firebrands think they are in control of things. Hopefully, those Senators will tell the Palin/Cruz crew to bring it on! Mainstream republicans need to start primarying the tea party candidates and put them on the run. I sure wouldn’t bet 21% favorability could beat much of anything. creeching Palin to
It’s time for the treats to be over. Its time for loud mouth screeching Palin to SDASTFU.
So she wants to challenge four sitting republican senators? Go for it! How had that worked out so far? Not so well. She helped Harry Reid get reelected by supporting that tea party fool. You cannot gerrymander a state! So let’s chalk up four democratic senate seat gains in 2014.
It’s time for a civil war in the GOP. Suits me. I’ll get some popcorn ready.
In a fight between Sarah Palin and Mitch McConnell, there are no heroes.
I saw a post from a high school classmate re Palin being on Fox and making reference to trying to get back to celebrating Easter the way Jesus celebrated it. [!?] It may be a joke designed to make Palin look bad. I can’t vouch for the accuracy of the report. But if she did say that, it’s dumber than anything she ever said in 2008.
Oh Lord, wouldn’t you love to have a recording of that comment! @Scout. Too funny.
