Final home stretch 2013.  Terry McAuliffe ads tell voters that he has his eye on business, growth and bi-partisan solutions to common problems.  He also trusts women to make their own health care choices.  Works for me.

Cuccinelli and his supporters tell voters that this election is a referendum on Obamacare and higher taxes.    I am not sure how a state election will have any outcome on a federal law.  I think once again, the Republicans are off their mark.  They need to be telling us what they are going to do for our state.  My taxes went up quite a bit under the current Republican administration.  The extra 1% sales tax jolt because I live in Northern Virginia really pisses me off.  I would gladly share part of that with the rest of the state, rather than Northern Virginia taking the hit.  I also paid for car licensing which is a tax and I now pay sales tax on purchases from Amazon.  That is a huge hit.

There are 8 (yes that is eight) delegate positions in Prince William County.  That is totally absurd.  The fact that there are 8 positions says someone did one hell of a job of Gerrymandering.  I just wonder what party was in charge of that debacle?  I live in the 13th so naturally I support Atif Quarni who is a math teacher, veteran of the Iraq war, and a personable guy who is not a culture warrior like his opponent.

Then there are the down-ticket candidates.   I haven’t heard much out of E. W. Jackson.  I am sure he is a nice man, just not Lt. Governor material.  I support Senator Ralph Northam.  Mark Herring is the obvious choice for Attorney General.  No more personal agendas in that office.  If the ads are to be believed, Mark Obenshain carries his own agenda and is another culture warrior.  No mas!

Disclosure:  I am not even going to pretend to be bi partisan tonight.  This independent is pushing the Democratic Ticket in Virginia.

  1. “I am not sure how a state election will have any outcome on a federal law.”

McAuliffe wants to expand the Medicaid end and set up Virginia exchanges. Of course, that means the state will be responsible for more of the expenses. Unlike the feds, Virginia cannot print money. He seems to forget that.

    1. Of course the states who set up their own exchanges aren’t having the problems that the behemoth federal website is having.

Do you really think you aren’t going to pay for the unexpanded Medicaid? Who is going to pay for the almost poor? YOU are. *I* am.

You seem to think if there isn’t a program you won’t be paying. That’s not how it works.

I thought I was going to have to demand a provisional ballot. The woman who checked me in told my I wasn’t registered. I told her I had voted in the last election and every other one since 1978 in PWC. She continued to tell me she couldn’t help me. I continued to insist that I was registered . She told me my street didn’t exist. I said it had only two houses but they’d been there since the 50s. Finally the young woman next to her found my name. The first one had misspelled it along with misspelling the street name. (She had my drivers license so I don’t know what her excuse was.)

    Voting was light but steady.

I didn’t say that WE wouldn’t be paying for it. I said that the STATE would have to pay for it, by increasing STATE spending.

I’ve always stated that we end up paying for it. Paying TOO much for it while getting less.

I am sure you did the right thing. Did you get the day off to vote?

  6. @Cargosquid

Actually the Feds were paying for it 100% for the first few years and then they would take over at 90%.

Better for them to pay for it than for me to pay for it with increased premiums.

Holy cow. I would have been on fire if that happened to me. That is one reason I vote absentee now. I start in Sept. and that gives me time to sort out all the inherent difficulties. I had a lot this time. The first application never got to its destination. It was just one thing after another. I did see on line though that I had voted or at least mailed back my ballot.

Latest Gallup poll: Obama’s national approval rating drops to 39%. Sort of like hitching your wagon to a falling star.

    1. Oh God!!! The sky is falling. Maybe he will sink lower than George Bush.

What difference does it make? Do you think Obama is running for re-election or something?

You probably need to worry more about the outcome of the Virginia election.
