Full Circle at last: Bob Dylan advertizes America

Dear God! I have come full circle. I never thought I would live to see the day when Bob Dylan advertised for America.  Yes, Bob Dylan was the unofficial, self-appointed poet laureate of the 60’s.  He marshaled in protest and protest music like no one else.  He stood for defiance and what was wrong with America’s youth.  He stood against all our parents had fought for.  Or did he?

The bad boy of the 60’s, that gravel-throated young man who had most American parents screaming “turn that commie pinko bastard off!!!” to their kids is now the grand spokesman for America. Pool hall, suit, and somewhere, an American flag.

Bob Dylan, you have made me proud.

Guttmacher Institute Report: Abortion rate at lowest point since 1973

Washingtonpost.com
:

The abortion rate in the United States dropped to its lowest point since the Supreme Court legalized the procedure in all 50 states, according to a study suggesting that new, long-acting contraceptive methods are having a significant impact in reducing unwanted pregnancies.

There were fewer than 17 abortions for every 1,000 women in 2011, the latest year for which figures were available, according a paper published Monday from the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion-rights think tank. That is down 13 percent from 2008 and a little higher than the rate in 1973, when the Supreme Court handed down its landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

The study did not examine the reasons for the drop. But the authors suggested that one factor was greater reliance on new kinds of birth control, including intra-uterine devices such as Mirena, which can last for years and are not susceptible to user error like daily pills or condoms.

Totally bad taste: Perverts with Principle

Bill Maher does not disappoint. He lets both liberals and conservatives have it! Totally bad taste. I laughed like hell, all to myself. Relax! It’s Super Bowl Sunday.

should Little Duck have been removed from the State of the Union Address? He wasn’t properly attired. Was he making a political statement? In 2006, Congressman Bill Young’s wife was removed for wearing a Support our Troops t-shirt during the Bush Administration. Cindy Sheehan was arrested at the same time and removed. (As an aside, I would not describe Mrs. Young as “pro-war” as suggested CNN. She cared a great deal about young people being sent off to war.)

I lived in Atlanta when I was a kid, for 3 years.  Most of the time it was Hotlanta and that was before the days where AC was standard in most houses.  We had a dishwasher and I thought we were royalty.

There were a couple of snow storms while I was there.  My brother and I had sleds.  We had just moved from New Jersey.  All the other kids liked us because of those sleds and begged for a turn.   I can’t remember huge amounts of snow but it got pretty slick and I think we even got snow days.  We lived on a slight hill.  We could drag up to the top of the hill and go pretty much to the bottom for a couple of hours.
