I guess I am just getting grouchy.  I got an email from my supervisor Pete Candland around 6 pm telling me I still had time to vote.  I was ok with that.  It’s a good thing for our elected officials to remind us to vote.  It is NOT OK,  however,  for them to tell me WHO to vote for.  Here is the email:

There is still time to vote!
With polling locations closing at 7:00pm, there is still time to cast your vote for Barbara Comstock and Ed Gillespie.  We need your help to elect good, honest, hard-working people to represent us in Washington.

I’ve had the opportunity to get to know both of these individuals and can tell you they are committed to moving our country in the right direction.

I hope to see you at the polls this evening.

Pete
There was still time to cast your vote for Mark Warner and John Faust also.  Pete can remind us to vote but he needs to drop the partisan crap when speaking to me, the constituent.  Now, if he is at a Republican meeting, or with his R buds, he can say whatever he wants.
Sorry, I have just had too many folks telling me how to vote lately.  I don’t need a last minute reminder from Pete.  what really grated is that the Gainesville District has at least 2, maybe 3 U. S. Congressional races going on.  I had a choice of Mosher and Wittman.   Is Pete not even aware that HIS party aligned his district so it is chopped up like a tomato?  I couldn’t vote for Barbara Comstock if I wanted to.  I am not in her district.  (I would never support any candidate who voted yes for that ultra-sound bill.)
Have the political messages just driven you crazy this election cycle?

14 Thoughts to “Pete Candland: Don’t tell us who to vote for”

You need to get the knot out of your knickers. You might also consider blocking Candland from your e-mail but then you couldn’t bitch about getting campaign mail from him. As long as he paid for the e-mail and your e-mail is open to him, you’re SOL.

curious, I didn’t get an email. I guess I am on the persona non grata list 🙂

I was shocked to hear that a Barbara Comstock representative actually told my in-laws she is pro Roe V Wade. What an unadulterated lie!

I get Corey emails ALL the time. I also believe it is bad form to misuse your constituents email addresses. I think morphing being a Supervisor and needing to deal with your constituents should not immediately allow hijacking your email address to promote your political leanings, D or R!

  3. Rick Bentley

Oh, come on Moon. I received calls today from Barack Obama and Mark Warner telling me how important it was to go vote for Warner. (I assume. i didn’t actually listen to the messages).

  4. Scout

The President called me last night. Right in the middle of dinner. I told him that he had more important things to do. He’s not a good listener, I can tell you that.

  5. Apparently the males have missed the point. I am on Pete’s email list because I am his constituent. It is for communication over Gainesville issues. He needs to take a less partisan tone when addressing me. The only reason he has my email address is because I contacted him over a constituent issue. I am not on a broader Republican email list.

Several years ago, I raised the same issue with Corey. How come now you males want Pete to have a pass but not Corey?

Finally, I couldn’t vote for Comstock if I wanted to because I am not in her district. All of the Gainesville district is not in the 10th. Some of it is in the 1st district. Pete has had on-going difficulties with boundaries. He doesn’t seem to grasp this fact.

Meanwhile, if you are tired of my bitching, I suggest you find another progressive local blog. (good luck on that one) I promise that I am going to continue to bitch over things I don’t like. You can take that one to the bank.

I think he called me right after he called you. It didn’t sound like him either. I like it better when Bill Clinton calls.

Actually the robo calls weren’t too bad this year. I didn’t get a lot of mailers either. Of course I can’t remember my congressman’s name either but that’s ok.

P.S. I presume your computer doesn’t have a “Delete” key. How sad in the 21st century.

  8. I believe the taxpayers paid for that email I got. It didn’t appear to be private email. I would have considered it a public service announcement had it not been partisan.

Just a reminder to all constituents to go vote, without the partisan suggestions, would have been better received.

Candland’s e-mail came from “candlandforsupervisor”, which I suppose, is a non-government organization. BTW, I got e-mails from President Obama, Tim Hugo, Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, Joe Lipshitz, and any number of others recommending someone for reelection.

There were also folks, including me, at the polls yesterday handing out sample ballots recommending who to vote for.

I think it is called the democratic process.

I also received an email from Hugo. The difference is that his was simply informative on voting requirements, period! Perfectly acceptable to me. No begging for money, no telling me what candidate to vote for. Now, I do receive emails from DNC. Which, is perfectly acceptable, I willingly have given them my email address.

The only reason Corey has my personal email address is because I email Corey over county issues and concerns. That does not give him the right to add me to his personal electoral email list. Period Why don’t I receive general RNC email? Because I have NEVER given them my email. I don’t want their information. But Corey and Pete? They have both misused their position to further their contact list for personal gain. Tim Hugo has NEVER done that, I guess that’s why I like Tim.

This isn’t about the process George, this is about certain politicians who misuse their constituents email addresses for their own personal gain. It is simply poor manners in my opinion.

    @Elena
No delete button on your computer either I suppose. Perhaps an upgrade is in order. Do you really believe that those e-mails from people like Tim Hugo et al are not really a way of keeping them in the public eye? C’mon-get real.

    1. How many dead horses you got over there now? The bodies are piling up. Obviously Elena and I have hit a nerve criticizing the fair hair child.

He’s annoying but worse is the anonymous miscreant blogger….who tilts the truth. And runs the official. And makes stuff up. And who claims to have inside information but actually gets it from officials offices. And is simply a pompous ass who shouldn’t cast aspersions….

Pete is still trying to figure out how it all works. He often steps in it I think. Perhaps someone is giving him bad advice? Hmmm, I wonder who that could be.
