December is the month of bare trees. Bare trees are my favorites. They make great photography subjects. Bare trees need to decorations but a nice coating of ice or snow does enhance them greatly.
I just ordered a wall sculpture featuring three bare trees. I hesitate to take it out of the box because I know the rest of the family will hoot and boo.
Happy December! Many important events in my life happened in December. The bad news is, the rest of the months are pretty lean.
The report on CIA torture comes out, and there is some hue and cry. Meanwhile Nicki Minaj “drops” her new video, which sexualizes torture of bloodied, restrained enemies, and will be seen by millions of teenagers. Each of our political halves that constitute America finds one thing upsetting, but not the other one. I’m not going to say that we’re an immoral society, but we’re an amoral one, and no one is driving or steering the train, for sure.
Nicki Minaj is tasteless. I hope she is no moral compass for anyone.
@Moon-howler
The complaints were due to the idiotic punitive nature of the closings since it cost MORE money to close them than leave them alone. It was done purely to make Americans “feel pain” so that the administration could use it as PR.
@Pat.Herve
Yep.. we were able to vote on defunding Obamacare…… except for the small fact that we didn’t.
Everything is fully funded.
Now its the DEMOCRATS, like Warren that are talking about shutting down the government for THEIR principles. I notice that there is no “sturm und drang” from the press about that. Almost….as if the press were not neutral.
The parks should have been closed. Otherwise you would have had some idiot throwing chairs in old faithful.
Punitive? The entire shut down was punitive. You are cherry picking, once again. All non-essential government services were closed. You want to pick what is essential now, amongst the non-essentials? It’s simpler to not shut down the government.
There is no sturm und drang because it didn’t happen.
@Moon-howler
The Parks?
I’m talking about the memorials on the Mall. Or roads into parks that actually weren’t under park control. Yes…punitive. Obama shut down anything that would piss off the public for PR purposes.
Nope, no sturm und drang about Warren’s comments about shutting it down. Hasn’t happened…yet. Nothing has passed BOTH houses.
The memorials are part of the national parks, are they not? The public should have been pissed off and not at Obama.
@Moon-howler
Why not at Obama? HE’s the one that shut those down. HIS choice as to what to do. And he spent MORE money than if he had done nothing.
Perhaps you should be angry at YOUR people who caused the shut down. That’s who I am still mad at. I am pleased the Obama closed non-essential parts of government. You still want to cherry pick. Why do I still remember a bunch of men vandalizing the area?

Rightwing Republican Hollywood’s “War on Women” continues.
Can’t be part of the war. Hint: The war on women has to involve government.
Actually, as far as Hollywood goes, the story about the back-end “points” on “American Hustle” is interesting.
Christian Bale got 9% – ok. Bradley Cooper who wasn’t all that gets 9%. Hmmm. Jeremy renner whose part was relatively small got 9%.
Amy Adams who was the co-star and great in the movie gets 7%. Jennifer Lawrence gets 7%, though she was the biggest box-office draw in the cast, definitely the single biggest reason people bought tickets, and featured heavily in the film’s marketing campaign.
Some said, hey we should give Lawrence as much as the guys. Someone else says, no then we’ll have to give Adams as much too.
It seems that the men got reflexively paid more.
@Moon-howler
That was the Democrats refusing to negotiate that caused the shutdown. And then….the President unilaterally did what the Republicans were suggesting anyway.
As for the shutting down non-essentials, closing the Mall and guarding it to keep people off cost MORE money. He didn’t shut down a thing.
I am calling bullshit on you Cargo.
Surely you don’t believe that.
Happy 10:11 12/13/14
Excellent. Back at ya.
BTW, my brother said that one was brilliant, Cargo.
Respectfully, Says who? I would imagine that the folks who decided sound a lot like this:

those of us who have \earned our stripes. Those little beasts don’t get to decide anything as long as I am alive and kicking.
More proof that Jackie the rape accuser made her story up for attention – http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/dec/15/friends-uva-rape-accuser-begin-doubt-story/
But who lied? The reporter, Jackie or both? It appears to me that there was a serious amount of journalism malfeasance.
I suppose I am holding out on this one because I feel certain the stories told by some of the other women are true. There are men who force themselves on others. There is a culture of sexual entitlement on that campus. It is not new. Not even close.
Jackie lied to her friends at the time – gave them a supposed contact number for the supposed rapist, that she was able to feed messages into. She has done other things like this, grabbing people’s pictures off the internet and inventing fake boyfriend accounts. She’s a “catfish”er. But instead of looking for someone to internet date, she looks for people to feel sorry for her.
She lied, and the journalist didn’t check the story because she didn’t care. And Rolling Stone which is a joke magazine published it, as they are wont to do.
That’s right, according to the friends, the picture they were shown was of someone who went to her high school, according to them.
So much as been said, its hard to keep up with it all. I think the Journalist also lied.
Rolling Stone has always been a joke magazine, in my opinion. There are people who do not share my opinion.
