Finally! Real spring. Ignore any snow and sleet you might see. It is an optical illusion. Last year I had daffodils in February. This year, not so much. Finally, this week they are blooming.
My winter pansies met with ill fate in some of the pots. About half survived. I have never lost quite as many as this past year.
It was a rough winter. I would take one like that every year just to get a summer like last summer.
Last summer was manageable. Hoping for a repeat for sure.
Emerging from an extremely stressful semester with just weeks to go! Capstone project, check! Practicum, done! One small project and a final exam left, and the degree will be mine. Did someone say it was spring?
Congratuations, Emma. I have been thinking about you. I hope you treat yourself to some Grey Goose as a reward.
Man, these Iran nuke negotiations are going great huh? I keep waiting to hear about the deal each time we reach the ‘deadline’ but then there is another ‘deadline’ (or is it red line?)… Oh well, I suppose we will just continue to negotiate till they actually have a nuke then declare victory.
In September President Obama referred to Yemen as a success story and a model of how to conduct anti-terrorism efforts.
Today Iran backed rebels (yes, the same Iran we are ‘negotiating’ with) captured the presidential palace in Yemen.
Enough doom and gloom, this is awesome. Enjoy 🙂

Amazing. Obama announces and applauds the verbal agreement on nuclear weapons with Iran. No sooner does POTUS finish his announcement than the Iranians deny that what POTUS said was the truth about the agreement. Looks like we will have to wait until June, apparently, to get a written agreement….if that is possible.
Sigh……Even Chamberlain came home with a signature on a piece of paper.
@Wolve
Funny thing about that June date… That’s when some experts say they will have enough enriched material for a bomb. Hence my comment about us ‘negotiating’ long enough till they have a bomb and then declaring an “unpresedented” victory.
Kinda reminds me of other great deals this Admin has made like negotiating with a terrorist orginization to give them 5 core leaders for 1 deserter.
How about the climate deal he signed off on with China I 2012? The deal is that WE reduce our CO2 emissions by 26-28% by 2025. What percentage does China have to reduce their CO2 emissions by in that same time frame? 0%!
Not only do they not reduce their CO2 emissions at all by 2025 but they don’t reduce their CO2 emissions till 2030! I’m starting to think that these guys suck at negotiating.
You want to go to war with Iran?
Admin; We have a great and unpresedented deal with Iran (not a deal, an agreement to work on a deal)
Iran; the US is “the great Satan”… Death to America… They lied about the deal… Death to America
Admin; Netanyahu broke protocol and is trying to sabatoge this deal.
You beat me to it! Arghhhhh! I was just typing up the cookie cutter standard DNC talking point:
“So when you hear the inevitable critics of the deal sound off, ask them a simple question: Do you really think that this verifiable deal, if fully implemented, backed by the world’s major powers, is a worse option than the risk of another war in the Middle East?” – President Obama – 2:30ish today
So basically if you don’t agree with this admin you obviously just want to go to war, period. LOL!!! Yeah, it shit deal or war. Nothing else
Prediction #1: John Kerry will win the next Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating a deal to maybe make a possible deal in the distant future potentially maybe.
Prediction #2: Deadline in June comes and passes with no final deal. Deadline extended, and extended, and extended, then crap deal agreed upon giving up everything and getting nothing. Admin declares ‘unprecedented’ an ‘historic’ deal and anyone who disagrees just wants to go to war.
Prediction #3: Admin attempts to get the senate to vote on the deal then claims of they don’t they are just haters who are out to destroy diplomacy.
@Jackson Bills
Yes, yes to war! Let’s have John Bolton lead the boots on the ground.
The airdale general. Not one of W’s best picks.
How… predictable 🙂
I called this exact response back in post #11. Too funny
You now the second to use the same DNC talking point. I wonder how many more will do the same?
Now why would Punchak use the DNC talking points? She is an intelligent lady and can think for herself.
Perhaps it might just be the obvious.
War, we do not War – let there be peace in our time. But still, I thought we should have nuc’ed these assholes back in 79 — tacticallu of course. Did not have the guts then and now look at where we are.
And I still say that Obama needs to re-establish the MAD policy if Isreal is attacked. End of story.
Looks like a good framework coming out of the Iran talks –
ability to verify, reducing capabilities, agreement on not pursuing a nuke, etc.
Some people on not happy that progress has been made and other than war, what is their solution….crickets.
@Pat.Herve
#3… (golf clap).
You are aware that NO deal has been made… right? Nothing signed, nothing in writing or at least nothing both sides actually agree upon, right? The deal was to make a deal possibly maybe not really but fingers crossed. Just hours after President Obama revealed the fact sheet Iran was saying “it was a lie… Death to America”.
Question… did we happen to negotiate that they don’t continue to be the worlds #1 state sponsor of terrorism??? No?
How about they don’t back rebels who completely took over Yemen; our model for foreign policy in the Middle East on counter terrorism??? No?
Mmkay, did we negotiate the release of an American citizen held prisoner in Iran for preaching??? No?
Alright… Did we demand that they dismantle the abity and infrastructure needed to build a bomb??? No?
At least tell me that we got something out of this deal???
Yes!
Really, What is that!?!?
They now love and respect us of course!!!
“Death to America” – the Ayatollah – a week and a half ago during negotiations
So go nuke them…that’ll show em for sure.
Yep.. Agree with President “if you like your plan you can keep it” Obama or you just wanna nuke em. I would say your #4 but you have already been counted.
Does anyone see how someone would be suspect of this ‘deal’ to maybe possibly hopefully in the future somewhat kinda make a deal? It’s all bullshit. Less than an hour after the ‘fact sheet’ came out they called it lies!
But yeah, let’s all celebrate the “unpresented and historic” deal? Can we even call this a deal?
@Jackson Bills
and your alternative is……..
White House hacked by the Russians.
Howling at that moon!!!!!

Watching the PWCS presentation. What a sorry mess. I’m glad I’m not starting off here with young children.
Its too depressing for me to watch.
What a tragedy / 8 people in Maryland die for lack of electricity.
Many people on the Navajo reservation don’t have electricity. Its almost standard once you get off the main drag.
@punchak
Why were they running a generator in the kitchen? That is what caused the rise of CO and their death.
@Pat.Herve
I assume they were running the generator to keep warm.
What do you think was the reason?
@punchak
You shouldn’t run a generator in the house or an enclosed space. They’re noisy and perhaps the neighbors mentioned the noise or the man thought they would be bothered by it so he moved it inside.
Doesn´t much matter now, does it?
Hmmmph! Last week in Pinal County, Arizona, the cops got involved in a high-speed chase. When they finally stopped the vehicle being chased, they found it was occupied by three illegal immigrants. One of them was a 26-year-old male from Mexico. The cops found out that this guy had been captured and deported from the U.S. no less than 20 times. That’s “t-w-e-n-t-y” times.
And they try to tell me that the border is now secure. Yep, it sure is.
Who told you the border was secure? It can never be secure any more than East Germany could technically be too tight for anyone to escape. I think what is being said is that there are more border agents than ever and that the border is more secure than it has ever been. !00% will nevr happen as long as there is a human spirit.
You must be kidding. Look at that post again. 20 times. Caught not by the Border Patrol but by Pinal County deputies in a car chase. The deputies didn’t know they had illegal immigrants until they caught those fellers. You call that more secure than ever? And the BP reports that the border surge has started again. New waves coming. Secure, my eye.
What would you do to make the border more secure? “Secure the border” is sort of a rallying cry and nothing more. How do you secure miles and miles of open space? How do you secure oceans? There are something like 30,000 border agents.
I don’t see what difference it makes who caught them. Pinal County isnt all that far from the border.
Hmmmm, saw a series of maps on the web about demographics in the US. The maps showed Prince William County as being minority white. Didn’t know that. True?
True. We are a majority minority county.
Punchak — Those people were reportedly using a stolen meter on their house to get electricity without paying for it. The power company tracked the meter down and took it away. The people then used a portable generator. Apparently they put it in the house because the noise might cause problems with the neighbors. Something fell through here. Don’t Maryland companies have assistance programs like those in Virginia for people too poor to pay the electric bills? Stolen meter or not, how does a company just walk off and leave a family with all those kids with no power? And where were social services?
@Wolve
My opinion as well, Wolve.
Ted Nugent in the news again – calls Native American group who disagree with him “vermin” – http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/07/23/ted-nugent-native-americans-are-unclean-vermin-who-dont-qualify-as-people/
Ted Nugent is probably one of the most despicable people alive. I just saw a video of him this morning that just blows him up for the big pig he really is.
enjoy:

He’s referring to the left wing cockroaches from Southern Poverty Law Center, not Native Americans.
Oh, and he’s absolutely on the money on that score.
My bad, misread the story due in part to misleading headlines. But – “unclean vermin”?
Clearly the guy says these things to get attention. But there’s a limit to what we should stand by and let other people say. I wouldn’t want him playing my state fair.
“Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time, and I think a marriage is as a marriage has always been, between a man and a woman.”
So…..who is going to vote for the candidate that said this?
@Rick Bentley
Unclean vermin…….basically he called him a “dirty rat!”
I believe Hillary said that. People have evolved a great deal lately, especially when they view same sex marriage as a civil rights issue.
I question the morals of a person who quotes and endorses Ted Nugent.
So do I. In fact, every time I think of Ted Nugent I think of Timothy McVeigh. I wonder why that is? Same disregard for the normal bounds of decency?
In the “I was right, many of you were wrong” department – Marco Rubio says that “comprehensive” immigration reform is not politically possible – http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/19/politics/marco-rubio-immigration-claire-mccaskill/index.html
There is no logical reason why comprehensive immigration wasn’t passed 7 or 8 years ago.
I’m not going to think that hard about people like that. But I see it as a self defined righteousness not a disregard…
“There is no logical reason why comprehensive immigration wasn’t passed 7 or 8 years ago.”
Sure there is – it’s because the Federal Government has no real ability, or political inclination, or strength of will, to keep anyone out.
The whole sales job on “comprehensive” reform is like someone telling you that if you submit to rape one more time, in addition to the several rapes they’ve perpetrated on you in the past, then they’ll stop raping you. (Sorry, I had to say that. That’s how I see it).
Inhofe is going to have another anti-science fit – his own state is blaming the recent earthquakes on —— Fracking. http://news.yahoo.com/seismic-shift–oklahoma-s-earthquakes-triggered-by-wastewater-disposal-wells-191559607.html
I thought earthquakes were caused by dragons writhing under the earth’s surface. Can anyone prove otherwise?
They aren’t? Damn.
That is a rather gothic explanation.
Anyone read about the incredible ash volcano eruption in Chile?
Anyone read about the incredible storm that hit Sydney and
New South Wales last week?
Do our newspapers keep us informed about events NOT taking
place in the Near East?
Just asking.
Wrong. Earthquakes are the result of the Norse god Loki trying to break the chains by which the other gods fastened him to a great rock as punishment for killing the son of Odinn through the poison of the mistletoe. Better hope those earthquakes continue. If they stop, that means Loki has broken his chains, and the end of our world is about to begin. When the great god Thor is killed in battle by the giants, the end of the end is coming. “Ragnarok” for those of you who have never ventured north of the Baltic.
Wolve – your explanation is far more colorful than mine. It has a nice “End Days” element to it also. Thanks. Perhaps the problem with fracking is that the stuff they shoot into the geologic substrata is annoying the dragons or corroding Loki’s bonds. We need to be careful.
Wow. No sooner do we start talking earthquakes here and a devastating 7.8 hits Nepal. Many dead. Even Mount Everest climbers were affected. Fairfax Fire Dept. special rescue team is gearing up in case they are called.
Tune in Monday night via TV or LiveStream to the City of Manassas Council Meeting as it will be a doozy…most likely!
The Council, with the new Zoning Definitions, have put Medical Care Facilities AND Hospitals as a Special Use Permit. The fight over one small clinic expanded from resonable zoning definitions to now the SUP. Vote went 4-3…Mr. Elston, Mrs. Bass, and Mr. Wolfe sided with Staff….Messrs. Aveni, Lovejoy and Way went with tighter requirements and the Mayor broke the tie siding with the latter three.
NARAL, Prince William County Democratic Women’s Caucus, and other groups will be there as the Council does the first reading for approval at around 6:15pm or so (by the Agenda). Citizens Time is at 7:30 followed by the Budget Public Hearing.
This should get real interesting to watch!
A shout out to name the new 12th high school after Senator Colgan – This school deserves to be named after an individual who has spent over 40 years trying to improve PWC – naming a school after him is the right thing to do. Please sign the petition.

When did our media keep us informed about events that ARE taking place in the Near East?
