Greg Reynolds gets it right!

Greg Reynolds called out Pete Candland and Jeanine Lawson over their budget machanations. How many more times are they going to waste valuable staff time by “tweaking” the budget?

The majority of people in PWC approve of the 3.88% budget. Pete and Jeanine, give it up. Listen to Greg. He has been around a long time and is a very wise man.

The BOCS needs to pass the 3.88% budget without further ado.

Reserve “cop” charged after accidental shooting

Washingtonpost.com:

Why was a 73-year-old insurance company executive playing cop?

That’s the simple question many are asking more than a week after an undercover Tulsa sheriff’s operation went wrong — and a white reserve deputy sheriff shot and killed an unarmed black man, apparently by accident.

The reserve deputy, Robert Bates, was charged Monday with second-degree manslaughter, the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office said.

“Mr. Bates is charged with Second-Degree Manslaughter involving culpable negligence,” Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler said in a statement. “Oklahoma law defines culpable negligence as ‘the omission to do something which a reasonably careful person would do, or the lack of the usual ordinary care and caution in the performance of an act usually and ordinarily exercised by a person under similar circumstances and conditions.’

April 25: Citizens beware! Hostile take-over!

hostile

If anyone out there in Prince William County  land really believes that the fire-house primary scheduled for April 25 is an accident, I have a bridge for sale.  Life isn’t that random.  The harbingers of hostile-grab have been out there for months.  The plans have been in the process of being laid for  several years.  We have been warned time and time again.  I am just not sure who was really listening.  Some of us were.

Even if no one was listening, we should have all sat up and taken notice when a GOP candidate was eliminated from his primary because he filed his paperwork late.   Now what is the likelihood of 2 different late filings disqualifying people within the same two months in the same county?  I am just not buying it.  Essence of rat comes wafting in once again.

Look no further than the Gainesville Cartel.  Let’s face it, the contenders for supervisor wouldn’t have a ghost of a chance in a general primary.  The Gainesville Cartel has been recruiting and building its contenders over the past year or so.  It starts with tearing down others and building up little-known people into something they are not.   Recruitment has been heavy handed at times.  The tearing down and destroying has been going on for quite some time.  Just follow the internet ink.

The ultimate goal is to party-bust and rid the local party of all Republicans who might be not only too moderate but also might not be under the influence as those who would see themselves as king makers.  Yes, there is some definite royal ego involved in all this political chicanery.

It’s very safe to say that voters will not be getting an independent thinker if any of the supervisor contenders are elected on April 25.  The puppetmaster will be ever-present, not far behind the candidate contenders, speaking in their ear.  Should the contenders win the fire house primary, it will almost surely end up a sweep for Democrats.  That’s just what happens when those with tea-party mentality try to take over a county.  Prince William would become a former image of itself, with  even more drastically reduced services and a leaner educational system.

I can hear the Democrats doing the heavy breathing thing, smacking their lips and salivating over the thoughts of their win.  If the supervisor-contenders pull this off, and they very well might, because of the nature of fire house primaries, then they will face a general election where all bets are off.  The Democrats  see the shady business going on with the bat-snot crazy side of the local GOP and are sitting back chuckling, waiting for the fall-out to settle.  They won’t even have to soften the  Republicans up after the hostile take over.  The local GOP will have already handled that end of things.   This election is ripe for the picking by lucky Democrats.

Meanwhile, I understand that concerned citizens have contacted the DOJ over election ….errrr…irregularities.  They should.  Something is rotten in Prince William County.

Walker appointee suggests volcanoes are real culprit of climate change

volcano

Huffingtonpost.com:

Wisconsin, which has been in the news this week for voting to bar staff of the state public lands board from talking about climate change, is getting a new state official who is skeptical of human contribution to climate change.

Gov. Scott Walker (R) recently appointed Mike Huebsch to the state Public Service Commission, and Huebsch was asked about his views on climate change during his confirmation hearing this week. The Public Service Commission oversees utility issues in the state, including electricity, gas and water.

“I believe that humans can have an impact to climate change, but I don’t think it’s anywhere near the level of impact of just the natural progression of our planet,” Huebsch said, according to the Wisconsin Radio Network. “You know, the elimination of essentially every automobile would be offset by one volcano exploding. You have to recognize the multiple factors that go into climate change.”

Scientists have studied this issue fairly extensively, and concluded that emissions generated by human activity — specifically, the burning of fossil fuels — far surpass volcanoes when it comes to warming the planet. Human activities generate about 35 gigatons of greenhouse gases per year, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, while all the world’s volcanoes combined spew something in the range of 0.13 to 0.44 gigatons per year. That means the human influence on the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is 80 to 270 times greater than that of volcanoes.

I don’t think there is THAT much geothermal activity going on.  Why do people say things like this regarding climate change?    I believe the readers will have something to contribute on this issue.

Will the ban be lifted?  Will state employees be allowed to say “climate change?”  I guess not talking about something will make it go away?

Obama calls for an end to “conversion” or “reparative” therapy

New York Times:

President Obama will call for an end to psychiatric therapies aimed at “repairing” gay, lesbian and transgender youth, White House officials said. His decision on the sensitive issue is the latest example of his continuing embrace of gay rights.
In a statement to be posted on Wednesday evening alongside a WhiteHouse.gov petition begun in honor of a transgender teenager, Leelah Alcorn, who committed suicide, Mr. Obama will condemn the psychiatric practice, sometimes called “conversion” or “reparative” therapy, which is supported by some socially conservative organizations and religious doctors.

Good for the President.  I am not sure this is a national issue legally but it should start discussion.   I can’t think of anything more harmful than to try to make someone something they aren’t.  Certainly no federal funds should go towards this type of quackery.

SC officer shoots suspect in back

Washingtonpost.com:

A white police officer in North Charleston, S.C., was charged with murder Tuesday after shooting and killing a black man following a routine traffic stop over the weekend.

The decision to charge the officer, Michael Thomas Slager, came after graphic video footage emerged depicting Slager firing a volley of bullets into the back of Walter Scott, who was running away.

Rolling Stone retracts UVA rape story

New York Times:

Rolling Stone magazine retracted its article about a brutal gang rape at a University of Virginia fraternity after the release of a report on Sunday that concluded the widely discredited article was the result of failures at every stage of the editorial process.

The report, published by the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and commissioned by Rolling Stone, said the magazine failed to engage in “basic, even routine journalistic practice” to verify details of the ordeal that the magazine’s source, identified only as Jackie, described to the article’s author, Sabrina Rubin Erdely.

On Sunday, Ms. Erdely, in her first extensive comments since the story was cast into doubt, apologized to Rolling Stone’s readers, her colleagues and “any victims of sexual assault who may feel fearful as a result of my article.”

What we don’t know is what will become of Jackie. Obviously her story was not real but…did something dreadful happen to Jackie? Was she a victim at some point in time?Did the Rolling Stones story invalidate the story of others? Can we move forward? I hope so.

MO GOP attempts to remove steak and fish from SNAP card choices

loaves and fishes

Apparently there will be no fishes and loaves for Missouri’s poor.  Lawmakers have decided to tinker and chisel away at what food stamp recipients can  and cannot purchase with their SNAP cards.  According to Washingtonpost.com:

In 2013, Fox News proudly broadcast an interview with a young food stamp recipient who claimed to be using the government benefit to purchase lobster and sushi.

“This is the way I want to live and I don’t really see anything changing,” Jason Greenslate explained to Fox. “It’s free food; it’s awesome.”

That story fit a longtime conservative suspicion that poor people use food stamps to purchase luxury items. Now, a Republican state lawmaker in Missouri is pushing for legislation that would stop people like Greenslate and severely limit what food stamp recipients can buy. The bill being proposed would ban the purchase with food stamps of “cookies, chips, energy drinks, soft drinks, seafood or steak.”
