Good bye Patriot Act. Sure, there are things that people don’t like abut it. Why not fix it rather than all the histrionics and drama.
I am all in favor of spying on people who could do our nation harm. Screw their “rights.” I grew up in the 50’s. “Rights” was a relative term.
Store my meta-data. See if I care.
Did they really take that image from moonhowlings?
I am sure they pilfered it from the internet, same as I did but imagine my surprise!!!
I hope you are feeling better, Rick.
This data is going to get collected. The question is who gets to keep it and use it.
I’m OK with government keeping it if they are prohibited from using it in any criminal or civil court cases or making it public. And if they try to leak it as an end-run around this requirement, each person so damaged would be eligible for damage claims against the government of $10,000 per occurrence.
These constraints would use market forces to balance privacy and the value of national security.
Look at those flying pigs!!!!!
I’m agreeing with Ed.
For the party that does not like mandates – they just mandated private companies to invest in infrastructure in order to maintain data that they have ordinarily discarded. Why do this? What expense have they imposed on private companies?
At least we still have Reagan’s executive order 12333 that allows the capture of all kinds of information.
I agree with Ed and Moon-howler. The government needs to collect information on people that could harm America. When it comes to important national security issues like climate change, we can’t afford to tie the government’s hands. Even for issues that aren’t national security ones, but could harm people, like gun ownership, we need to allow the government to act quickly. Courts and oversight will just slow things down.
I don’t have particularly strong feelings because I am not very familiar with the Patriot Act. However, I want the government to have the tools it needs to protect us. Other than that, the post went up because it showed out logo. It was purely narcissistic.
