I blew my knee out last July.   It still is problematic and I reinjured it at the gym.   Why am I telling this info on a blog….well…stay tuned.  There really is a point.

I got to wondering if it was going to be better or worse in November.  What if it is worse?  How can I stand in line to vote?   So I did what I thought was the logical thing to do, I registered to vote absentee.

Now I find out that everyone in the world has access to this information.  I have already gotten one personalized letter from a candidate.   Why is the fact that I am voting absentee a matter of public record?

Is nothing private?  I am surprised they didn’t have bad knee written on the form.

12 Thoughts to “Absentee ballot leaks”

I still have an issue that I MUST enter my ssn on the early voting form.

    1. I didn’t have to do it this time but I did absentee, not early. I don’t see why its necessary to enter your social SECURITY.

That is an issue. I have not problem with putting the last 4 digits on forms, but the entire ssn? There are plenty of ways to verify your eligibility. How about your VA drivers license number? That’s a unique government issued identifier.

The SSN was never intended to be used for ID purposes. If you look at the card (do they still issue cards?) it has language to this effect. I think it was in the late 70’s and early 80’s that someone had the bright idea to begin using the SSN as a “unique identifier”, and soon everyone was requiring it. Even in the armed forces, the old “Service Number” was replaced by SSN. I have promotion warrants, Commissions, awards, and dog-tags that all have my ssn printed on them, and therefore access to them must be controlled, as in the late 1990’s we saw the explosion of ID theft.

    1. I can remember when Mary Sue Terry initiated removal of ss numbers on checks.

I think there is way too much hype about voter ID. I applied online this year to get my absentee ballot. I did not have to use my social, I don’t think.

Jackson Miller sent out the link to everyone on his list. He is not longer my delegate. My own delegate sure didn’t.

      There, my moment of zen….

Moment of Zen, hmm, I support Bernie Chavez Sanders to be the Democrats nominee for President. I think I will send him a few bucks. There, I feel bettter too.

    1. Apparently you missed the significance of my moment of zen. I bet Steve got it.

Blue, I gave Jackson Miller credit for doing something I approved of. That rarely happens. Thus, my moment of zen. However, I did take a swipe at Bob Marshall, who is my delegate.

    Ugh, Bob Marshall.

Steve – you can put the last 4 digits – which are the most unique on the form – but the little old lady’s fill in the rest of your ssn before the form is sent to the central office.

Regarding the ID – the card was never meant to be used as a form of ID – “For Social Security Purposes – Not to used be as Identification” – and removed in 1972.

Hey, I also got a message from the democrats telling me who the candidates are that I can vote for in absentee. I am a dem but a bit disturbed that they know about my voting absentee. Got nothing from the republicans yet.

    1. MY personalized message was from the Republican candidate for state senate. I agree, I don’t care which party knows….it’s none of their business. My husband volunteers for the democrats and mentioned that they also have the list of absentee voters.

The Republicans are hysterical because so many people are voting absentee…you know, the elusive voter fraud we keep hearing about. Actually, I think that they are hysterical because you can apply to vote absentee online. Electronic signature rather than hard copy to apply.

Well, I am just as paranoid as they are about either party knowing my business. In some states, all voting is absentee.

  7. Confused

I don’t think it’s a big deal. At least you learn which candidates are paying attention.

    1. There is just something creepy about it. It makes my spider sense tingle.
