13 Thoughts to “Veterans Day 2015”

  1. Steve Thomas

Today 10 November the 240th Marine Corps Birthday. In 1775, we planned it this way, because we knew eventually there would be Veterans Day, and that meant a day off after the Birthday celebration.

A retired Marine Major set up a “muster” for Manassas-area Marines at City Tavern. Drinks, dinner, traditional reading of John A. Lejeune and the current Commandant’s birthday messages, and a cake-cutting. The oldest Marine present entered in 1945, and the youngest in 2011. A great time was had by all.

  2. Steve, thank all of you for your service. I wish I had dropped by just to peek in.

  3. Here is the link to one of our previous tributes to Veterans.

Thanks for putting this tribute together. An interesting aside (or maybe not): When I left the house this morning, Mrs. T and my daughter were sleeping-in, enjoying a day-off from work/school. Me? I had to work, as this isn’t a paid-holiday for my employer. Oh well.

    1. Ah the irony!

You all are more than welcome. I enjoy doing it and I have had several people comment thru out the year that we are the only one who remembers the military related holidays locally.

Thanks for the Veterans Day comment.
Happy Veterans Day to all my fellow vets, including the Merchant Marine.

Happy Birthday to all you Jarheads!

Oh…and if you know any WWII Merchant Marine sailors, thank them too.

    1. Did you see the pbs show iwo jima: combat to comrade?

I hope everyone had a very nice Veterans Day. This is very nice custom that you have started, MH. Thanks for taking the time to do this. We should also honor the sacrifice of spouses, children, and parents of Vets.

All Veterans should be thanked – we often fail to thank them enough, thanking them on just one day a year is not enough.
