A video of Chris Christie making an emotional plea for better treatment for drug addicts has gone viral, racking up more than 4 million views on Facebook.
The New Jersey governor and 2016 Republican presidential candidate was filmed by the Huffington Post at a recent town hall in Belmont, New Hampshire. He compares drug addiction to his mother’s addition to nicotine from smoking, describing the many lengths she went through to quit.
When she was ultimately diagnosed with cancer, Christie said, “No one came to me and said, ‘Don’t treat her ’cause she got what she deserved.'”
“No one came to me and said, hey listen, ‘You know your mother was dumb. She started smoking when she was 16. Then after we told her it was bad for her, she kept doing it, so we’re not going to give her chemotherapy, we’re not gonna give her radiation, we’re not going to give her any of that stuff — you know why? ‘Cause she’s getting what she deserves.’ No one said that,” he said.
Daddy Bush knew….
Former President George H.W. Bush takes some unexpected swipes at Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, key members of his son’s administration, over their reaction to the Sept. 11 attacks, in a new biography of the 41st president, Fox News reported on Wednesday.
In “Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey Of George Herbert Walker Bush,” author Jon Meacham quotes Bush as saying that Cheney and Rumsfeld were too hawkish and that their harsh stance damaged the reputation of the United States, the cable news network said.
Speaking of Cheney, who was vice president under President George W. Bush, the senior Bush said: “I don’t know, he just became very hard-line and very different from the Dick Cheney I knew and worked with,” according to the report.
Cheney served as defense secretary during George H.W. Bush’s 1989-1993 presidency
Election post-mortem
It’s over. Thank God! No more phone calls and there will be room in my mailbox for the mail.
I am appalled over how much money is spent on elections. I am equally appalled that there is so much talk about abortion, guns, and people’s past histories that have nothing to do with the office they are seeking. We need to spend far more time talking about potholes, commuter lots, and making sure there is money for every child to have a text book.
Guns and abortion really don’t often affect most of our every day lives, yet, many of us, myself included, use these issues as criteria for whom we will vote. That’s just screwed up and I know we are used by the powers that be to keep politicians in office.
Election Day Report
I hear that the party designation has been left off the ballot at Sudley Elementary. I am trying to get confirmation. The sample ballot is accurate. Stranger things have happened.
How about sharing some election news. Is voter turn out light or heavy? Are people packing heat at the polls? (is that legal or illegal?)
Are the candidates at the polls?
Where are the good parties tonight? I only got 2 invitations. I am not sure who has the best ones, D or R. Who drinks the best scotch?
Feel free to post a sample Republican ballot here. Not trying to be partisan, just trying to convey the message. (although I am fairly partisan, not because of party but because of issues.)
