March supposedly comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.  If today was any indication, the lion part is true.

This March is filled with events:  Super Tuesday, Daylight Saving Time, St. Patrick’s Day, the Vernal Equinox,  Passover, and Easter to name just a few of the most notable.

Oh I left off a biggie–House of Cards returns on March 4.  Time for a little binge watching.  I just can’t wait.  HoC’s political intrigue really is a blessing at this point in time.

I am looking forward to a little warmer weather.  I need some deck time before the mosquitoes show up.

135 Thoughts to “Open Thread…………………………….March, 2016”

  1. Joe Scarborough has a new hairdo. Modernized. Maybe Mika got hold of him. Anyway, he has highlights now.

Those two have no dismissed Trump ever. They took him seriously and have repudiated him.

I don’t know anyone personally who supports Trump. Who are all these people? I have a rather wide circle of friends. Not one of them. 1 person I know online–that’s it. I think she has slipped the track…or there are other reasons.

I’m in the same boat Moon, even among the few conservative friends I have I don’t know of anyone who support Trump. At least they don’t admit it I suppose 🙂

    1. I had that same discussion at lunch. Some of the people knew someone. I did not. No one I know would admit it. ho ho ho

Hillary to hold a fund raiser for an NRA lobbyist… interesting:

    1. “Gun Control”

What is it? I see Gov. McAuliffe’s compromise with the GOP as a form of gun control. Is it wrong? I don’t think so. So we are trying to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and the mentally ill. Call it what you want. Its still gun control. However, I think its gun control most people favor.

    2. You seem insistant on knocking Hillary. You probably need to take that elsewhere. I am tired of it. I am not cramming her down your throat but you seem to really want to cram your dislike of her down mine.

Furthermore, you know Bill Clinton is a sacred cow here. That is a posted warning.

Find something else to talk about.

  4. Mom

    @MoonHowler
Bullshit Moon, you know at least this one.

    1. I went and looked. That is far too difficult. They all should be willing to own their votes without putting the taxpayers through a mountain of paperwork.

For instance, I want to know how each of them voted over the concealed weapon fee. It should be as simply as typing in concealed weapon fee.

  5. Oh that’s right. Sorry to slight you. Elena even reminded me that I knew one.

Did Corey recruit you? (ducking and headed for cover)

  6. @Mom

I need some info from you. Is there any place on the county website where a citizen can go to see how supervisors vote on issues? If not, why not?

That would really go far towards making the county business more transparent.

What would it take to make that happen? I would like for them to own their votes.

  7. Mom

    @MoonHowler
Bwahahah, take direction from Corey? In a word (well two), HELL NO.

BTW, I was Trump before Trump was Trump, or have you forgotten.

  8. Mom

    @MoonHowler
Yes and No. If you want to know how they voted on a specific item or day, you can look it up on the website on the agenda/video/minutes page but you will have to access the records for the day of the vote.

Is there a comprehensive database/spreadsheet that shows all of the votes no. But, it has been suggested recently I just can’t remember if it was Pete or Jeanine or both that pushed for it.

  9. There needs to be a quick way to look it up, without having to watch them all go through their BS.

It should be filed by topic and by date.

    Why aren’t they doing it?

And while I am on my high horse, Silver Lake really has turned into an even worse arm pit…going beyond the extensive repairs to the dam. You can’t get to any of the picnic tables, esp. if you have mobility issues. You also risk breaking an axle going past Rainbow Riding. Aren’t they supposed to keep that road graded?

  10. Mom

Why aren’t they doing it, because you, or more damaging I, could look up their votes and call bullshit on public statements months or years later. Can’t have a pesky database like that up during an election year.

  11. I think we need to start demanding that they do this. Its a relatively simple thing to do.

  12. Strange happenings in PWC. Rubio and Trump are in a dead heat with Rubio ahead by a few votes.

That much be embarrassing for the chairman.

  13. punchak

Looks like ORANGE is the winning color.
Paul Ryan’s warning came waaaaaay too late. 🙁

    1. Let’s just hope that Orange isn’t the new Black.

Rubio is beating Trump in PWC by less than 200 votes.

  14. Cargosquid

    Trump and Hillary take Virginia.

    So…the Democrats won both nominations.

  15. Wolve

    Deport Bill Clinton to India!

  16. Wolve

How about that? Bernie won Oklahoma and seems to be ahead in Colorado.

    1. Good for him. He is a smart man. Apparently he appeals to the under 30 voters a lot. I believe he won Colorado also.

  17. Wolve

I looked at some of the exit data from various states. Seems like Bernie did very well almost everywhere with the youngsters and, as Censored might put it, Hillary got the Democrat “old peeps.”

    1. Women, old peeps and one other demographic, which I have promptly forgotten. I only paid attention to the ones that applied to me.

    1. Old news. So what? She screwed up and got put on the back burner about a year ago. My guess is that she was phased out. One of the incidents was wearing tampon earrings. The other was some anti white remark.

Most recently she blasted MSNBC in email. They have been severing their relationship with many different people. I guess she was just one whose head made it to the chopping block.

I would have been fired if I had worn tampon earrings to work.

  18. It sure is quiet around here today. Wound-licking?

The good news is that Marco Rubio won Prince William County…not by much but he did win.

While I don’t agree with him on anything policy-wise, I think he is a decent human being.

Somewhere in the grand scheme of things, that’s important. I don’t feel like I am living amongst cretins who all go out and attack each other over disagreeing.

  19. Jackson Bills

    @MoonHowler
You know what is not ‘old news’ about racist MSNBC? A Democrat congressman saying the same thing on the House floor today:
    http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/house/271488-house-dem-blasts-nbc-over-melissa-harris-perry-departure

Heck, he even got #NBCsoWhite trending…

    1. Why do you care what Gutierrez says? Most conservatives hate him and mock him.

The network has had a huge make-over the past 6 months. People come and people go. Krystal Ball is also gone, as is SE CUPP.So.

If Melissa Harris-Perry bails, that’s between her and them. I think most of us call it a business decision.

If you want me to get interested in your pleas for her, something will have to happen to Rachel Maddow. Then I will listen.

  20. @MoonHowler
The thing is I don’t care about anything Mr. Guterirrez says…. But ‘progressives’ do. And as of right now you have a progressive democrat implying MSNBC is racist and after listening to his argument I can see how other progressives would agree with him.

They would never get rid of Maddow, she is white.

    #NBCsoWhite

    1. She is also a lesbian. They haven’t gotten rid of all minorities.

They also cut Rev Al’s time back. They are reprogramming their day. Why do you care?

How about CNN? What are they up to these days?

  21. Wolve

Business Insider reports that our Special Forces (Delta Force) in the Iraq-Syria theater have captured a significant ISIS military figure (unidentified yet to the media). They are interrogating him in theater but apparently don’t know what to do with him after they are finished. Not Gitmo. No more prisons in Iraq. No more secret prisons abroad.

    Any suggestions?

  22. Ed Myers

I am disappointed that Drumpf won Virginia. Elections have consequences and parties have responsibilities. If Drumpf is the Republican nominee I vow to boycott voting for any Republican in any election for the next 2 years. If he wins election I will extend my boycott for 6 years. I will hold the Republican party all the way down to dog catcher responsible for providing the stage for Drumpf to make a mockery of our political process.

    1. I wouldn’t do it in the first place. The only place I would consider voting for a republican is in local elections. (I can think of 3 locally I might vote for. In my case, 2 are out of my district)

  23. Wolve

I understand that the great modern paragon of American virtue and morality named Miley Cyrus has come out and said that Trump is a “f***ing nightmare.” Bwahahahahahahaha!

    This is getting good.

    1. When Miley Cyrus thinks you are bad, you must be bad.

  24. Wolve

Yes, Miley must be in the camp of Hillary or Bernie. Tsk, tsk, the company those Dems keep! Alas, it’s absolutely necessary to protect your children from them all.

    1. It has been my experience that when kids are “protected” from things, once they find out they exist, kids gravitate towards the forbidden–even to the point of sneaking.

Having said that, I will admit that Miley Cyrus is definitely not who I want my off-spring emulating. However, she is one person, not a movement. To the best of my knowledge, she hasn’t attempted to lynch or kill people or deny them their rights.

Her destruction seems to be self-destruction.

  25. Ed Myers

It is not just Drumpf, but the authoritarianism of his supporters that is dangerous. If that voter base gets validated we will need a strong opposition firewall not only in Congress but at the local level to prevent the moral collapse of our nation.

Will our military refuse to engage in war crimes at the demand of a Drumpf presidency fueled by supporters who think that unlawful military action is necessary to restore America to their warped view of greatness?

Voters who support Drumpf are out to destroy America (or at least the Republican Party) just the way a jilted lover angrily disfigures his former partner in an attempt to make it so she can never be loved by anyone else again.

    1. Interesting analysis, Ed.

I had not thought about the military end of it.

    @MoonHowler

Miley is “just one person”? I’m inclined to think that she has become somewhat representative, unfortunately, of most of the sick entertainment culture in this country.

    1. Do you think she is any worse than some of the characters who were rock stars and movie stars in our youth?

Probably not worse. Look at how many of our contemporaries are now dead from living stupid lives.

  28. Wolve

Actually, I grew up in a religious milieu in which the vices of the Hollywood crowd were roundly criticized and even boycotted to a large extent under the view that, by providing them with your money, you were enabling their sinful behavior. As teenagers that didn’t sit too well with many of us who wanted to go to the movies. It mellowed out after awhile. However, now, as an official geezer, I am beginning to feel the same way about grandkids and access to the contemporary entertainment scene, including the internet, where porn apparently reigns as king.

    1. My parents weren’t particularly religious but they weren’t void of it either. There were lots of movies I wasn’t supposed to go to. My mother even griped about my friends having “Hollywood names” whatever those are.

There are lots of things I don’t want my grandchildren seeing. I don’t care what my kids watch–they are adults. I am fairly grossed out by the language on kids shows and the obsession with bathroom humor.

Language is rough on TV, that’s for sure. It doesn’t offend me but I wish it were gross later at night.

Interesting case study on conservative supply-side economics in the Post today:https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/03/04/the-debilitating-economic-disaster-louisianas-governor-left-behind/?hpid=hp_rhp-top-table-main_louisiana-605pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory

Turns out that cutting taxes and corporate giveaways destroy your economy. Who knew!?! Now the new Louisiana governor needs to cut huge chunks of government or enact huge tax increases. I am SO glad we had democrats in charge of the U.S. economy when we needed it, resulting in the strongest economy in the world while the others who chose austerity are still recessive.

  30. I find it telling that I have had a tribute up to Nancy Reagan on the date of her passing….I am not a Republican.

Not one comment out of anyone. Just attacks on Hillary when there is no thread about her.

There won’t be one about her. Don’t come here looking for one. There won’t be one about Bernie.

  31. I did not know that Ron Reagan’s (the son) wife of 30 some years died 2 years ago.

    Where have *I* been?

  32. Jackson Bills

    MoonHowler :
I find it telling that I have had a tribute up to Nancy Reagan on the date of her passing….I am not a Republican.

There won’t be one about her. Don’t come here looking for one. There won’t be one about Bernie.

Why do you take criticism of Hillary Clinton so personally? I posted two articles written by liberal progressives from the Huffingtonpost and you accused me of attacking her. I did not attack her, I simply posted articles about her… from your fellow progressives.

Also, you obviously really like Hillary and I assume your husband is working on her campaign. So then why not post a thread about her or Bernie? Is there a reason why “there won’t be one about her… so don’t come looking for one”? I’m just curious, that’s all.

    1. It should be perfectly obvious why. I don’t take it personally. I don’t want to deal with a bunch of slack jaw over either Bernie or Hillary and I know from years of experience on this blog what it would turn into. There are plenty of other blogs to go hog wild on. Just not this one.

I have already made myself very clear about Trump also. I will continue to blast away at his bad behavior.

Next I will have the SoN people over hear challenging me about what I said about their hero, Pete.

The bottom line is, it’s my blog. I decided a year ago I wasn’t going to go nuts arguing about any democratic candidate. I will vote for who I vote for. I am not cramming it down anyone’s throat here. I just would like the same respect shown to me.

When the Republicans have some candidates who are pro choice, that might all change. Right now, they just need to get a candidate who is an adult and who doesn’t feel the need to discuss their “endowments” during a debate.

  33. Jackson Bills

    @MoonHowler
I understand that it is your blog and you’re free to post what ever you want, no arguments there. I was just trying to understand why the blackout of any discussion at all on the other half of the presidential ticket.

Just so I understand it correctly, and I’m not trying to being a jerk about it, you do not want any discussion about the Democratic side of this presidential election because you “don’t want to deal with a bunch of slack jaw over either Bernie or Hillary”. To me that means that you don’t want to deal with any negativity or criticism of the Democratic candidates. Is that correct? Which is fine, like you said, it is your blog.

When I posted things about Hillary within other threads I was told to put that kind of stuff in the ‘Open Thread’ section because the thread I was posting in wasn’t about Hillary, it was about Trump (or some other Republican). But then when I posted articles about Hillary, from the Huffingtonpost, in the ‘Open Thread’ section like I was instructed to do I was told:

“You probably need to take that elsewhere. I am tired of it. I am not cramming her down your throat but you seem to really want to cram your dislike of her down mine.”

So is it accurate to say that Hillary and Bernie should not be discussed in any thread including the so-called Open Thread?

    1. I really just don’t want to cover the election. Then along comes the trumpet….

Yea, put things that are off topic in the open thread, that’s why there is an open thread.

Bottom line, I am a cross, crabby bitch. Surely you can appreciate that. What got me stirred up was every time I post something about the horrible behavior I see out of Trump…as a human being…I get this middle school response of …well Hillary does this or Hillary does that. No. What Hillary does doesn’t address my problem with Trump.

Its deflection and its what middle school kids do. “Well, look what so and so did!” I am off the clock there. Not dealing with it here. Too old, too bitch. Surely you can understand old and bitchy. 😈 👿

  34. Jackson Bills

    @MoonHowler
Lol! Great response Moon and yes, I can totally understand old and bitchy (even young and bitchy as well). Thanks for the honesty and Ill try to keep my own crabby posts about Hillary in the open thread.

I know exactly what you mean when you say something about Trump only to have responses say “well, look what so and so did!”. I have been seeing and hearing it for almost 8 years under Obama. It seems like any time there is a criticism about President Obama all you hear is “well, look what Bush did!” so I get it.

Anyway, have a wonderful day today, it looks like it is going to be beautiful outside. I’m going to try to get out and work in my flower beds and prep my grass for the season.

Pastor who gave opening prayer at a Ted Cruz campaign rally shot 5 times the next day:

He was shot in the back including the head, lung, hip and shoulder and survived. As of now there is no know motive but it is believed to be possibly be related to work the pastor and his church did with drug and alcohol addicts.

    1. What is the story there? Shooting people is unacceptable. I wish him a speedy recovery.

  36. Jackson Bills

Would there be a story if the leader of what ever satanic cult Hillary is a member of was shot the day after a ritual sacrifice and blood drinking with her?

  44. Kelly_3406

This is the response to Pat’s question on the other thread about Benghazi.

The source for stating that Hillary did not take part in response planning is the House Interim Report on Benghazi. It states that the people in the meeting were the Panetta, Dempsey, and Carter Ham to discuss DoD response options. There was no mention of Hillary taking part.

The strange thing is that the DoD response approaches seemed to focus on a ground response such as a Marine FAAST team to respond. It appears that any consideration of an air response was given shortthriftThere was an unarmed Predator that provided a video feed that was already in Libya. There was mention that no AC-130 gun ships were available and the Navy aircraft carrier had departed the region. But there was no discussion at all of the F-16 squadrons at Aviano Air Base. The Predator could have provided target ID for F-16 air-to-ground against the “dozens” of attackers.

As for the attacks at the Annex, there was a long delay of 3-4 hours between the time that State Department personnel drove to the Annex from the Temporary Facility and a resumption of attacks. The reports do not shed any light on how/why the attacks shifted from the Temporary Facility to the Annex. The attacks were conducted with extremely accurate mortar fire from multiple angles.

It would seem that the delay should have allowed time for F-16s to launch from Aviano AB and arrive at Benghazi. The reports did not explain why this was not done. Also, why was the Predator unable to ID the mortar positions before the attack commenced?

There are still a lot of unanswered questions remaining about just what happened that fateful night in Benghazi.

  45. @Wolve

I see what you are talking about now. It doesn’t seem to be happening to me now.

Is it happening to anyone else?
