Tired of what she considers the government inserting itself into women’s private lives, a Kentucky lawmaker has decided to return the favor.
Rep. Mary Lou Marzian, a Louisville Democrat, has introduced a bill that would force men who want to use erectile dysfunction drugs to jump through a series of humiliating hoops beforehand, such as visiting a doctor twice and getting notes from their wives.
“I want to protect these men from themselves,” Marzian, who is a nurse, told the Courier-Journal.
“This is about family values,” she added.
Mazian told Fox affiliate WDRB that House Bill 396 would also require that someone seeking Viagra, Cialis, Levitra or Avanafil “make a sworn statement with his hand on a Bible that he will only use a prescription for a drug for erectile dysfunction when having sexual relations with his current spouse.”
“I started thinking, ‘How would this body of men feel if the government was injecting [itself] into their private medical decisions,’ ” she added.
Antonin Scalia dead at age 79
Justice Antonin Scalia, the longest-serving member of the current Supreme Court and an intellectual leader of the conservative legal movement, died Saturday, and his death set off an immediate political battle about the future of the court and its national role.
Scalia, 79, was found dead at a hunting resort in Texas after he did not appear for breakfast, law enforcement officials said. A cause of death was not immediately reported.
President Obama, who disagreed with Scalia’s jurisprudence, nevertheless praised him as “a larger-than-life presence on the bench” and a “brilliant legal mind [who] influenced a generation of judges, lawyers and students, and profoundly shaped the legal landscape.”
Obama said he would nominate a successor, even though the Senate’s Republican leadership and its presidential candidates said an election-year confirmation was out of the question.
What? Why is an election-year-confirmation out of the question? On whose watch did Scalia die? I sincerely hope that the Republicans will not attempt trickery, obstruction and chicanery to block what is President Obama’s constitutional duty. November is 9 months away and the inauguration is 11 months away. That is plenty of time to replace Justice Scalia, if everyone is honest and does his or her job.
Funny how that Constitution is so freaking important…until it isn’t.
It’s Obama’s job to appoint a new Supreme Court justice in a timely fashion. Why is it that if he nominated Jesus Christ, I think that the Senate Republicans would block the nomination?
General Assembly: Virginia is NOT for Lovers
RICHMOND — A House panel on Thursday advanced a bill that would allow any individual, business or organization to discriminate against someone for having sex outside of marriage.
The bill says state agencies cannot punish discrimination against anyone who is in a same-sex marriage, is transgender or has sex outside of wedlock.
The legislation advanced 13 to 7 along party lines in the GOP-controlled committee, except for Del. Joseph R. Yost (R-Giles), who voted no. The provision about sex outside of marriage was added to the bill minutes before lawmakers voted.
It is headed for likely passage by the full House next week; Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) has said he would veto the bill if it reaches his desk.

Maryland child molester had juvenile sex offender record
A Maryland elementary school volunteer was charged with making child pornography on school grounds.
Deonte Carraway, 22, is accused of recording and directing children to perform sexual acts in various parts of the school, including the auditorium and bathrooms.
The 22-year-old aide at Judge Sylvian Woods Elementary School in Glenarden is also accused of abusing many of the children himself, NBC 4 Washington reported.
Carraway is charged with 10 counts of child pornography charges, one count of sex abuse of a minor and one count of second-degree sex offense.
This is old news. There are now 14 victims. A principal has been put on suspended leave. Children have been harmed. Officials say that there are potentially many other victims.
The shocking part of this story has just been released on TV. Apparently Carraway has a record as a juvenile sex offender. The records were sealed. This practice must end. Juvenile sex offenders become adult sex offenders. These records must follow all offenders.
Anyone who has ever worked with juvenile sex offenders will tell you that this condition is not something they are going to grow out of. The behavior continues. I have even been told there is no cure.
We certainly don’t want someone with juvenile sex offender record anywhere near children, especially unsupervised. This is a horrible situation. IN my opinion, there are no juvenile rights to be protected.
Furthermore, has anyone seen his picture? Who in their right mind would let their kid hang out with such a creep?
Gun owners urge NRA to scratch “Cat Scratch Fever” Nugent for anti-semitic remarks
Gun owners are pressuring the National Rifle Association to boot longtime board member Ted Nugent from the organization’s leadership ranks after the rock star’s social media outburst that depicted prominent American Jews as the men and women “really behind gun control.”
Nugent, an outspoken Second Amendment advocate, posted a photo on Facebook earlier this week calling Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), “Jew York City Mayor Mikey Bloomberg,” former senator Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, among many others, “punks” who would “deny us the basic human right to self defense and to keep and bear arms while many of them have paid hired armed security.”
The Israeli flag appears over or next to each of the 12 faces in the photo, which is the same one that has been shared many times in white supremacist circles, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
The post prompted applause from anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi groups.
2 area sheriff deputies targeted, shot, killed
Two Harford County sheriff’s deputies were killed in Maryland on Wednesday by an armed man who entered a Panera Bread restaurant at lunchtime.
The gunman was fatally shot by authorities after he shot the two deputies.
Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler announced the deaths of two members of his department Wednesday afternoon.
“They’re both two outstanding deputies who served the citizens of this county for 16 and 30 years respectively,” Gahler said.
He did not identify the deputies because he said their extended families had not been notified.
Chief Hudson to retire
News flash! The BOCS will be notified today that it is the intention of Chief Hudson to retire from Prince William County this spring. What a shame!
Chief Hudson stepped into hard-to-fill shoes and has done an superior job. He will be missed.
One has to wonder why anyone would want to work in Prince William County with the infusion of toxic political rancor I sincerely hope that isn’t the case with Chief Hudson. I hope we will continue to attract and retain really qualified people like the Chief.
Congratulations, Chief Hudson. Enjoy your retirement! Thank you for your service to our county.
Zika prompts intense abortion debate in Latin America
RIO DE JANEIRO — Across Latin America, calls to loosen some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the world in the face of the Zika virus outbreak are gaining momentum but encountering strong and entrenched opposition.
In El Salvador, where abortions are banned under any circumstance, the health minister has argued for a revision of the law because of the dangers the virus poses to fetal development.
In Colombia, an organized movement to lift restrictions on abortion has gained allies in the government but has run into determined opposition from religious authorities. The same is happening in Brazil — and some doctors say that as a consequence, illegal, back-alley abortions are on the rise.
Nearly everywhere in Latin America, including in those countries hit hardest by Zika, women who wish to terminate their pregnancies have few legal options. But as U.N. health officials have projected as many as 4 million infections in the Americas this year, activists are pressing lawmakers to act as swiftly as possible to ease rigid restrictions.
Virginia attempts to rein in proffers?
The Virginia state Senate is expected to vote Monday on a measure that would weaken a land-use tool used for decades by local governments to get builders to add roads, parks and other improvements to new home developments.
The bill, which calls for placing restrictions on what local officials can ask for in development negotiations, is one of two measures working its way through the General Assembly. A House version of the bill passed 68-27 last week.
Both measures are generating strong opposition from local officials in Northern Virginia, where development deals have helped shape the character of some of the region’s fastest-growing communities.
Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William county officials say that changing the legislation would hamper their ability to negotiate for extra amenities from developers that, in the past, have been crucial to community support for new housing in places like Merrifield or Woodbridge. Officials also argue that amending the land-use tool would open them up to lawsuits if builders whose projects were rejected argued that they were denied because of their refusal to agree to “unreasonable” proffer requests.

RICHMOND – Death penalty opponents lost a battle this week when a House committee endorsed a bill to make electrocution the default punishment if lethal injection is unavailable.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia and Virginians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty opposed House Bill 815, which would allow the Virginia Department of Corrections to use the electric chair if lethal injection drugs are unavailable. The House Courts of Justice Committee voted 14-7 in favor of the measure on Wednesday. It is now before the full House of Delegates.
“There is no humane way to kill another human being,” said Michael Stone, the executive director of VADP. His group advocates for life in prison without parole as the maximum penalty for capital murder.
Stone fears that HB 815 will clear the House and go on to pass the Senate. He said it would be a step backward.
Naked man chases PW teen on her way to school
NO PICTURE!
A 37-year-old man has been charged after police say he chased and assaulted — while naked — a 16-year-old girl on her way to the school bus stop Wednesday morning.
It happened on Charter Court off Prince William Parkway in the River Falls area as the Osbourn Park High School student was walking to the bus stop around 6:15 a.m.
The victim told police she was approached by a man wearing no clothes and she attempted to flee, but the man chased after her. At that point, a witness intervened, knocking the man and girl to the ground.
Still, the naked man at one point grabbed the victim and tried to prevent her from getting away, said Prince William police spokesman Nathan Probus.
When officers arrived, the girl had gotten away and the man had been detained. He was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation, and remained hospitalized Thursday, Probus said.
The man, identified as Musab Mohamed El-Sheikh, of the 4800 block of Grand Masters Way in Woodbridge, was charged with abduction, indecent exposure and assault and battery, Probus said. A court date is pending his release from the hospital.
How on earth do we teach our kids to avoid this kind of behavior? This is truly one of the most insane stories I have ever read. Who does this creature belong to and why was he out of the house? Wasn’t he cold?
As people sit around wondering why cops sometimes have bad attitudes, I think I might have just found the answer. Why would anyone work a job where they had to deal with loony tunes like this?
I think a mental health evaluation is certainly in order. What was his intent?
Dear Cargo, I feel your pain….voting rights
Dear Cargo,
I am dedicating this thread to you. Why? Because I felt your pain. Just for a moment.
You have continually said that gun ownership is a right and that you shouldn’t have to apply or register to bear arms because doing so was a right. (or something to that effect.)
I feel like I am having to dance and jump through hoops just to be able to vote. I think everyone here knows that I have a bad knee and that on any given day it could make me unable to go to the polls. I also have breathing issues but that is another story.
I like to vote by mail. It’s easier, it is legitimate, and it ensures that I will be able to vote in the event that the knee is acting up. So, tonight I thought to myself…I had better apply for that absentee ballot since March 1 is right around the corner.
Finally I find how to apply online. It is fairly well hidden. Then I started filling out the form. Nothing is intuitive. The form has changed since last time. Now I had to give a social security number and….tah daaaaaaaxahhhhhhh…..my DMV number so that my signature can be compared.
Why must I do all this just to be able to vote? Voting is a right. I shouldn’t have to go through all this bullshit. My knee hurts. I don’t feel like limping to the foyer to get my purse.
Where is the voter fraud? Show me where the voter fraud is and I might feel just a little bit better about going through all this malarky. Why would someone say they were me, risk going to prison just so they could cast a vote, in my name? How absurd.
Cargo, I feel about voting like you do about guns. It is much easier to own a gun than it is to vote. Tell me, when you buy a mail order gun, does DMV have to be involved to compare your signature? I seriously doubt it. If I am wrong, please tell me.
The lies and deceit continue from local anti-choice zealots
Washingtonpost.com: (Petula Dvorak)
It’s a tactic she has embraced for nearly three decades to disrupt one of Northern Virginia’s few abortion clinics. Lohman operates her Manassas crisis pregnancy center right next door.
Same brick building, same sign, same generic office decor. The abortion clinic, Amethyst Health Center for Women, was on the right. The pregnancy center, AAA Women for Choice, is on the left.
Confused women seeking abortions would wind up in Lohman’s place, where she threw all she had at them — pamphlets, pleas, prayers, promises of help, used baby gear, bloody imagery, God — to change their minds.
“Deceptive? People say we’re deceptive? Okay,” Lohman told me. “But what the other guys are doing? That’s deceptive, too. Those girls have no idea what abortion really is. When I hear ‘pro-choice,’ that is a deception. And this country has forgotten about God.”
Here’s the part that’s really astonishing. Several months ago, the abortion provider retired and the Amethyst Health Center closed. That’s when Lohman, 69, and her supporters swooped in, orchestrating their grandest deception yet.
Does Cruz have a bag of dirty tricks?
What dirty tricks has Cruz used to win? Other than one of his staffers announcing that Carson was dropping out, I don’t know.
Cruz appeals to evangelicals and uber-conservatives. I don’t know why. I have never heard anyone say they liked him who has met him.
I am particularly surprised that evangelicals like him. He is mean-spirited in the way he conducts business. Perhaps someone can provide the explanation for the attraction to this man.
II agree with Censored. He makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I feel he is evil.
Trump is rude, a blow hard and a blusterer. I don’t feel he is evil.
Who is worse? Trump or Cruz?
By now I am certain everyone is totally sick of the various caucuses. I have lost track of what’s next.
How interesting that the mighty Trump didn’t prevail in Iowa…or is it? Iowa is heavy in the evangelical department and apparently Ted Cruz is popular amongst that subset of voters. (I haven’t figured out why because he appears to be mean as a snake.)
Trump actually took coming in second pretty well for a narcissist. I still want to make Rubio sit at the “little table” at all holidays.
So, who is worse? Worse in what way? Worse for the Republican party might be a place to start. Who would be worse for the country? Trump or Cruz?
If you held a gun to my head and told me I had to vote for one or the other, I would vote for Trump. Why? I think Trump is living on borrowed ideology. The power of his belief system could easily be over-ruled by pragmatism. Cruz—not so much. He believes in his cause and his own sense of righteousness, or so it appears. That is why he is more dangerous than Trump.
Don’t get me wrong..a gun would have to be involved and aimed right at my skull.
