Bernie voting for Hillary–bye bye Trump

Donald Trump would like for Bernie Sanders supporters to ditch the Democratic Party and support him. There is very little evidence that they will do that, mind you, but it’s certainly possible that they might just stay home — which would help Trump.

Well, we have some bad news for the Trump campaign. Sanders supporters aren’t just rallying around Clinton; they’re doing it rather quickly. And it’s a big reason Clinton just extended her lead over Trump into the double digits, 51 percent to 39 percent.

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows that Sanders backers, who polls have shown were reluctant to jump over to Clinton and even flirted with supporting Trump, are coming home faster than we might have expected.

Last month, 20 percent of Sanders supporters said they would back Trump over Clinton in the general election. This month, that figure is down to 8 percent.

If this trend continues,  dumping Trump will be easier.  He tends to be his own worst enemy.

Good.  He is a damaging force for this country.

 

 

Brexit: The masses are asses

The whole world is reeling after a milestone referendum in Britain to leave the European Union. And although leaders of the campaign to exit Europe are crowing over their victory, it seems many Britons may not even know what they had actually voted for.

Awakening to a stock market plunge and a precipitous decline in the value of the pound that Britain hasn’t seen in more than 30 years, voters now face a series of economic shocks that analysts say will only worsen before they improve. The consequences of the leave vote will be felt worldwide, even here in the United States, and some British voters say they now regret casting a ballot in favor of Brexit.

“Even though I voted to leave, this morning I woke up and I just — the reality did actually hit me,” one woman told the news channel ITV News. “If I’d had the opportunity to vote again, it would be to stay.”

Apparently many Brits who voted to leave really didn’t think it through.  The financial implications of leaving the European Union are going to be disastrous for them.  Great Britain had its own currency.  They were allowed to secure their own borders.  Now their currency is devalued, their stock markets have plummeted and no one knows what the future holds.

I fear many Americans will jump on this feel good bandwagon also.  How many have fallen for Trump’s bullshit?  How many people will wake up the next morning with severe voter’s regret in November?  How many voters are beguiled by big mouthes’ stupidity?

I really wish the Brits hadn’t been dumb asses.  I lost 5 figures today…that’s 5 figures in one day.  I would hope that things will straighten themselves out in the next few weeks but we have no way of knowing what the future holds as more countries are emboldened to leave the EU.  In a global world, issues ricochet right off each other.

We live in uncertain times.  Meanwhile, Scotland voted to remain with the EU.  Where do they go from here?

 

 

 

The FOIA Wars–PWC style

I got texts about last night’s BOCS meeting.  No, I didnt see it.  I got up at the crack of dawn and watched it and I was disgusted–totally disgusted.  Was I disgusted at Corey?  Oh hell no.  I sent him a congratulatory text.  NO, I didnt think he was vulgar.  I thought he was forceful and at the end of his rope with the whining and interrupting.

What did not fall on deaf ears was the fact that Pete Candland admitted that he was bullying (my words, not his) Supervisors Jenkins and Principi because he felt like he was being bullied with FOIA requests by the Democratic school board chairman and the chairman of the Democratic party.  Well, that makes perfect sense in the world of two wrongs make a right. Except two wrongs don’t make a right.  Two wrongs are still wrong, by people with standards of decency.

What the hell did Jenkins or Principi do to Candland?  Nothing.  They are Democrats.  That’s their sin.  Candland and crew have squandered thousands of county man-hours on meting out his revenge.  According to Mrs. Caddigan, Mac Haddow was signing off on these FOIA requests.  Was that to keep Candland’s hands squeaky clean?

What Candland is overlooking or refusing to admit is that it is his close affiliation with the attack blog, The Sheriff of Nottingham blog that has brought all this about.  Throw in his mentor, Mac Haddow, who is seen by many Prince William residents as a bully and as having far too much influence in the Gainesville District.  It appears that he is calling the shots, through Candland.

Pete tried to bleat out that Mrs. Haddow was attacked.  By whom?  I have heard no one attack Mrs. Haddow.  I saw that her salary was discussed.  That was not an attack on her personally.   I feel certain that Mrs. Haddow wasn’t given the luxury of setting her own salary.  Besides, I hardly think she was getting wealthy from working in Candland’s office.  (nor is her son-in-law who took her place)

Perhaps the problem here is that the Gainesville Magisterial District office is simply too close to a family that is wielding too much power through Pete.  That is what needs to stop.

Pete, spin it any way you want.  The real issue is the attacks on others emanating from that blog, the former blog that was run by Haddow and the disruption in other areas (committees, etc).  Both my blog and its former co-partner, Elena were attacked by the Gainesville Truth Squad.  What kind of impression do you think we have?   That is just a blip on the radar of those who have been attacked.  Many others have also suffered with the half-truths and the vitriol.  When do you think people are going to get mad and fight back?

When Pete was running for office the first time, I put up a cartoon with Corey as puppet master, dangling a Petey puppet.  I was wrong.  Corey wasn’t the puppet master.  Today, if I ran that same cartoon, I would commission my cartoonist to draw a different puppet master.  3 guesses who it might be.

Pete, knock it off.  Chose less contentious people to mentor you and stop picking at and bullying your colleagues.  You embarrass the Gainesville District.  Call off your attack dog.

This piece on Moon-howlings is simply my opinion based on personal experience and what I have just viewed.  I have no “birdies” or other gossips chirping in my ear.

If anyone calls me from Candland’s office, don’t.  It’s happened before and I don’t want it to happen again.

An app for birth control?

A quiet shift is taking place in how women obtain birth control. A growing assortment of new apps and websites now make it possible to get prescription contraceptives without going to the doctor.

The development has potential to be more than just a convenience for women already on birth control. Public health experts hope it will encourage more to start, or restart, using contraception and help reduce the country’s stubbornly high rate of unintended pregnancies, as well as the rate of abortions.

And as apps and websites, rather than legislative proposals or taxpayer-funded programs, the new services have so far sprung up beneath the political radar and grown through word of mouth, with little of the furor that has come to be expected in issues involving reproductive health.

At least six digital ventures, by private companies and nonprofits, including Planned Parenthood, now provide prescriptions written by clinicians after women answer questions about their health online or by video. All prescribe birth control pills, and some prescribe patches, rings and morning-after pills. Some ship contraceptives directly to women’s doors.

Some accept insurance, including Medicaid for women with low incomes; some charge modest fees. Some send prescriptions to local pharmacies, where women can present their insurance information when picking up the contraceptives.

It’s about time!  Birth control is a private matter.  It shouldn’t be open to the politicians.  Throwing a doctor in the mix adds an unnecessary, often unaffordable,  expense to the woman.    Technology birth control strips doctor visits, politicians, religious nuts, and most of the aggravation out of the process of safe, affordable birth control.

I wonder what Margaret Sanger would be thinking now.

More military medical cover-up

Several pastors support Orlando execution

Following the deadliest shooting in U.S. history, a Baptist preacher stood at his pulpit Sunday night in Northern California and delivered an impassioned sermon praising the brutal massacre at a gay nightclub in Florida.

Pastor Roger Jimenez from Verity Baptist Church in Sacramento told his congregation that Christians “shouldn’t be mourning the death of 50 sodomites.”

“People say, like: Well, aren’t you sad that 50 sodomites died?” Jimenez said, referencing the initial death toll in Orlando, which authorities later clarified included 49 victims plus the gunman. “Here’s the problem with that. It’s like the equivalent of asking me — what if you asked me: Hey, are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today?’

“Um, no, I think that’s great. I think that helps society. You know, I think Orlando, Fla., is a little safer tonight.”

He added: “The tragedy is that more of them didn’t die. The tragedy is — I’m kind of upset that he didn’t finish the job!”

These clowns obviously do not represent Christianity any more than the Orlando shooter represents Islam.  Encouraging and supporting this heinous act is getting darn close to what I would call Christian terrorism.

Top Republicans denounce Trump

Top Republicans joined with President Obama and other Democrats Tuesday in sharply condemning Donald Trump’s reaction to the nightclub massacre in Orlando, decrying his anti-Muslim rhetoric and his questioning of Obama’s allegiances as divisive and out of step with America’s values.

Trump — who just a week ago signaled an intent to snap his campaign into a more measured tone for the general election — showed no sign of backing down from his suggestions that Obama was somehow connected to or sympathetic with terrorists, telling the Associated Press that the president “continues to prioritize our enemy” over Americans.

In separate appearances, both Obama and his potential successor, likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, blasted Trump’s proposal to ban foreign Muslims from the United States as dangerous and contrary to the nation’s traditions.

A visibly angry Obama also dismissed Trump’s repeated demands for him to use the term “radical Islam” when speaking about the Orlando shootings and other attacks. “Calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away,” Obama said. “This is a political distraction.”

Clinton described Trump’s response to Orlando as rife with “conspiracy theories” and “pathological self-congratulations.”

RICHMOND — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s remarks about the “Mexican” judge presiding over a fraud case against him has drawn condemnation from many Republicans.

Corey A. Stewart is not among them.

Stewart, the chairman of Trump’s Virginia campaign and a GOP contender for Virginia governor in 2017, turned to Facebook to offer Trump his full-throated support.

When Trump travels to Richmond on Friday for an evening rally at the Richmond Coliseum, Stewart will welcome him to the commonwealth. Stewart has warned that if there are any illegal immigrants protesting at the Richmond event, “we’re going to kick their asses out of the country.”

History in the making: Hillary can now claim the Democratic presidential nomination

Hillary Clinton now has the necessary delegates to claim the Democratic presidential nomination. The Associated Press said so Monday, based on weekend primaries in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and on superdelegates who had decided to back her since the last time they were canvassed.

But there is more here than the AP’s tally and Clinton’s support among the party establishment. With Tuesday’s primaries in California, New Jersey and four other states, Clinton finally amassed a majority of pledged delegates — the ones awarded based on the actual outcome of elections. What’s more, when all of the votes are counted, her popular vote advantage over Bernie Sanders (3 million votes going into Tuesday) will likely give her a double-digit victory.

I have been very quiet about the Democrats during the primary process.  I saw no point in beating up one over the other.  I knew that is where I was going to vote, once Trump established his dominance.  Why have to eat your words. Now it’s time for Bernie to just go away.

The historical significance of yesterday is not lost on me.  My grandmother was 31 years old before she could vote.  When I graduated from high school and college, I don’t think I even thought it was possible for a woman to secure the nomination of either party.  I remember when Geraldine Ferraro was selected as a running mate for Walter Mondale.  Her claim to fame was “Tits and Fritz.”  That’s pretty much where the country stood at its knuckle dragging state in the 80’s.

Good for Hillary.   She has done what no other woman has been able to do.  She secured the nomination of her party.  The rest is up to her.

Time for the GOP to tell Trump to straighten up and fly right or else

It’s time for Republicans to stop equivocating.  They need to call Trump out for his racist remarks and tell him to stop or they will retract their endorsements.  They need to stop hiding behind Hillary.  Right now many of them have put themselves in the untenable position of a self-avowed racist or Hillary.  Those really aren’t their only choices.

Republicans have a choice.  They can pour their efforts into the Senate and House races as well as the various gubernatorial races around the country.  If they do not, they will lose it all.   If they lose it all, they risk losing the party of Lincoln now and forever.

Stanford swimmer convicted of raping unconscious woman gets 3 months

Brock Allen Turner, the former Stanford swimmer who was discovered raping an unconscious woman behind a dumpster on campus in January of last year, will be sentenced to six months in county jail and probation. Prosecutors had recommended that Turner receive a sentence of six years, but judge Aaron Persky determined that Turner’s age — 20 — and lack of criminal history warranted him a much shorter sentence.

“A prison sentence would have a severe impact on him,” Persky said at Turner’s sentencing on Thursday. “I think he will not be a danger to others.” Meanwhile, the 23-year-old victim in the rape case, who had had a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit at the time of the rape and who had no memory of the attack, gave important testimony at the trial.

“You took away my worth, my privacy, my energy, my time, my safety, my intimacy, my confidence, my own voice, until today,” she said, reportedly directly to Turner. “I am a human being who has been irreversibly hurt.” And yet it’s Turner who would be severely impacted in his sentencing? Right.

Well boo hoo.  Poor Brock.  Brock was pulled off a sexual assault on a passed out woman behind a dumpster.  He is a rapist and sexual offender.  He will spend 3 months in jail and his father is whining over his son.   Brock should be put away for at least a decade.   I am revolted that the prosecutor only went for 6 years.

What is wrong with these people?  Is it because Brock was a white guy from Stanford that he is held to a lower standard on this heinous act?
