Hostilities of Politics: Thumbs down!

The John McCain Rally

I have a several problems with this. The young man was rude. He was on McCain’s turf. It was a McCain rally. He disrupted. No excuse. Then there is this thing about 2 wrongs not making a right. I saw a swing taken. I saw 2 people hauling the perp away. However, were these 2 dudes security? If yes, how am I supposed to know that? When John McCain came to PWC, our PWC police were there, in uniform, being paid overtime by us, the people of PWC. Had there been a heckler, he or she would have been taken out professionally by PWC’s finest. You and I paid for it here. John McCain needs to pay for it with his campaign funds rather than it looking like a bunch of bubbas hauled the guy away.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck agrees with the rest of The View:

Elizabeth Hasselbeck says targets and cross hairs on Palin’s website are dispictable. She speaks out against Palin using poor judgement and about the violence surrounding the passage of the Health Care Bill. All the women seemed to be in agreement.

Idiot thrown out of the McCain/Palin Rally

Click here to see a howling idiot. The video kept startling up with a life of its own so I took it down.
Check out the second video labeled UPDATE: Scuffle

Another protester is throw out of the McCain/Palin Rally. This guy is not playing with both oars in the water, it appears. If this guy is at the same rally, the video shows that there were uniformed officers. Whoever hauled the man away in the first video might not have been authorized. Not a smart move.

And as the grand finale: The Spitting Incident last Sunday

Unfortunately, I cannot imbed the video. Click here for the LINK. Follow the guy in the white baseball cap. You might need to watch several times. The dude is not manning up to what he did. He clearly knows what happened from his gestures.

Sean Hannity asks for proof. Well, people will see what they want to see. To me, these video show that jerks and idiots come in all political flavors.

Another End Run by the BOCS Yesterday

How dare they!

Yesterday, during Supervisor’s time, (# 8 at 5:06) John Stirrup asked for a directive to send the AG a letter thanking him for protecting their rights because he has filed suit against the federal government.  John Jenkins apparently was the only one with stones enough to object.  The directive was voted on and passed along party lines.  There no citizen input.

Mr. Jenkins called the move political and said it should not be part of the governance of that body.  Mr. Jenkins should be commended for speaking out and both he and Mr. Principi should be praised for going on record in opposition to this incredible  outlandish show of partisanship.  The BOCS has absolutely nothing to with the HCR law that just passed. They are a local governing body.  If they want to individually write to the AG and kiss up to him, that is their business.  Do it on their own time.  They do not have the right to do it for the entire county and they do not speak for me.

They have pulled an end run.  Those 6 Republican supervisors do not speak for me.  They do not speak for all the citizens of Prince William County.  They did not poll the citizens.  There was no warning.  Now my name goes to an attorney general whom I did not vote for praising him for wasting my money on something I disapprove of doing.

Didn’t they learn a lesson from the initial immigration resolution of July 10, 2007?   John Stirrup must have that tingle going down his leg over this one.  He seemed almost as giddy introducing the directive as he did that night we all saw him on TV at the Republican convention.

Stirrup, Stewart. May, Nohe, Caddigan, and Covington:  You do not speak for me.  Write your own suck up letter but do not do it in MY name.

Moonhowlings discussion of “Constantine’s Sword”

I came upon this movie, Constantines Sword, quite by accident, while uploading movies to watch instantly on the T.V.  I was profoundly fascinated, not just by the storyteller and his narrative, but the journey of Christianity and its intersection with Judaism, throughout history.   For me, the movie was truly moving, in a very personal sense.  When it was over, I wondered, how is it possible that the Jewish religion has survived?  What dedication must it have taken to continue the traditions under such heavy persecution.

In the end, I came away feeling even more strongly that religion is more often than not, misused and abused.  That the most important message, from almost all religions, “love they neighbor as thyself” too often becomes, well, completely forgotten.

One fact that was truly an eye opener was the use of the cross. Now, as a Jewish person, not knowing much about Christianity, I just always assumed it was because Christ was crucified on the cross. Could it be true, that Constantine had this vision when looking up into the blue sky, 300 years after Jesus’s death, of a cross in the sky, a vison he would replicate by crossing his swords?   Once he conquered his enemies, believing Christ had been the reason he had vanquished his enemy, the symbol of the cross would now be used to represent all Christians.

I look forward to the discussion!!!

An Issue of Fairness

Last year, pro life groups petitioned the State of Virginia for a pro-life license plate.  It passed, and the governor signed the bill into law.  $15 of the yearly fee goes to Heartbeat International.

This year pro-choice groups, spearheaded by Virginia Planned Parenthood, are attempting to have a pro-choice license plate.  The plate will say: “Trust Women/Respect Choice”.

$15 of the annual fee after the first thousand was to go to Planned Parenthood for prevention, health screening, HPV vaccine, etc.  NO MONEY WAS TO GO TOWARDS ABORTION.

Yesterday, HB 1108 was amended to divert the money to the Virginia Pregnant Womens Support Fund.  This fund, according to Richmond Sunshine, supports  the following:

Pregnant Women Support Act.As a routine component of prenatal care, every licensed practitioner who renders prenatal care shall provide information and support services to patients receiving a positive test diagnosis for Down Syndrome or other prenatally diagnosed conditions. This bill also creates the Virginia Pregnant Women Support Fund as a special nonreverting fund to be administered by the Board of Health to support women and families who are facing an unplanned pregnancy.

According to Lake Wylie Pilot:

Opponents, including the state’s attorney general and governor, say they oppose diverting money from plate fees to Planned Parenthood offices – not necessarily the plates themselves.

A state Senate committee heard testimony on the bill Thursday and could vote on it this week. The full legislature’s approval and the governor’s signature are needed for the plates to be sold.

Last year, Virginia became the 23rd state to approve the “Choose Life” plate.

The money should go to Planned Parenthood as the bill’s sponsor intended. How dare Delegate Todd Gilbert (R-15) attempt to funnel pro-choice money to any cause other than the one intended? This move is just another attempt to control what Virginians think. No one is being forced to buy that plate. The money comes from the person buying the plate, not tax payer money. That’s the rub.

Those who truly oppose abortion should know that preventing the need for it in the first place is the best way to do away with it.  Shame on those who divert money away from Planned Parenthood.

This legislative  end run appears to be a left handed way of inhibiting free speech. If one group gets to have a license plate with part of its funds designated as they choose, shouldn’t the other group have equal choice?

Meghan McCain–A Breath of Fresh Air

One of the best things about Election 2008 is that Meghan McCain is still around, on the TV talk shows and lecture circuits.  Meghan McCain is just a breath of fresh air.  She is a Republican who isn’t afraid to disagree with her dad and she is unafraid to speak her mind.

Have a listen:

Meghan is definitely her own woman.  She cannot be put in pigeon hole.  Does she have a political future?  Is she Republican enough or will she end up as a Democrat because of the culture wars?
