GOP still not getting it

Since the election, I have heard “illegals” a little less out of my Republican sources.  I have noticed that Elena has not had to issue one correction on this blog.  However, I don’t think people still get it.

It’s going to take a little more than trying to lure Latinos in.  It’s going to take real acceptance.  I am not sure how some Republicans are going to be able to do this.  As long as the animosity is there, the GOP will continue to lose Latino votes.

Hampden–Sydney students threaten violence after election results announced

Washingtonpost.com:

Hampden-Sydney College, an all-male school in central Virginia, is investigating an election-night incident in which a group of students upset about President Obama’s reelection set off fireworks, threw bottles and then shouted racial epithets at members of a minority student organization, officials said Thursday.

Some in the group also threatened violence against the Minority Student Union members, college officials said, but there was no physical contact. Officials said about 40 students were involved, but it was unclear how many were active and how many were bystanders.

Binders of Women? Here ya go!

Some things just need no explanation.  Ask me again why I voted for President Obama

I am still amazed that a party that calls for smaller government and less government intrusion feels they have the right to interfere with reproductive issues.  Don’t even tell me abortion, the interference starts long before that…it starts with birth control.

The real binders of women are those people who  still think it is appropriate to legislate restrictions that apply mainly to women.

Only when women have full control of their own reproduction will they have full economic equality.  Until then, there will be an invisible glass ceiling.

Fired up! Ready to go! Obama comes back to PWC

11/3/12

Inside Nova:

President Barack Obama will make a last-minute campaign stop in Prince William County on Saturday, along with the musician Dave Matthews and former president Bill Clinton, several news outlets reported Wednesday evening.

Fired up!  Ready to Go!  He’s coming back.  Even Hurricane Sandy couldn’t keep President Obama out of Prince William County, even though he had to cancel last Monday night.  He will bring Bill Clinton and the Dave Matthews Band with him.

The rally is in the evening and will be at Jiffy Lube Pavilion.

President Obama’s latest accomplishment has been to get FEMA right where help was needed.  He was fired up before hand, and ready to go as soon as the storm passed.  That is the secret of FEMA’s success….to be fired up and ready to go before the event, rather than trying to play catch up.  78% of those polled were very pleased with how the President handled the aftermath of the storm.  I wonder who those other trolls are?  That 22%?

Tickets are  at Obama Headquarters over in the City of Manassas.  You will have to supply information before getting the tickets.

Patrick Moran: Over-reach and entrapment?

Police  will open an investigation into alleged Moran campaign offense.  Patrick Moran, son of Rep. Jim Moran stupidly gave a right wing “investigator” inside how-to tips on how to commit voter fraud.  The incident was captured on video by James O’Keefe’s crew.

Washingtonpost.com:

Arlington County police have opened an investigation into alleged voter offenses involving Patrick Moran, former director of field operations for his father, Congressman Jim Moran, authorities announced Thursday.

Police said they launched the probe after numerous calls regarding an undercover video video showing Patrick Moran discussing possible voter fraud with an activist posing as a campaign worker. Authorities could not say how long the investigation might take.

Rep. Moran (D-Va.) is running for a 12th term in the House. First elected in 1990, his district includes Arlington County, Alexandria, Falls Church and portions of Fairfax County.

In a statement Thursday, the Moran for Congress campaign said it welcomes the investigation and intends to cooperate with authorities.

Being stupid isn’t illegal.  Absolutely Young Moran should resign.  He distracts from his father’s campaign and simply cannot  not be trusted with the wisdom and ethics that should be involved with any political campaign.

Washington Post endorses Tim Kaine for U.S. Senate

Washington Post:

TWO FORMER Virginia governors, Timothy M. Kaine and George Allen, are running for the U.S. Senate seat that Mr. Allen fumbled away six years ago. They are partisan stalwarts who disagree on deficit reduction, energy policy, health care, abortion, the death penalty and much else. The contrast in character and intellect is even more stark. On those grounds, Mr. Kaine, a Democrat, is a better choice by leaps and bounds than Mr. Allen, a Republican.

The Great VP Debate: Biden vs Ryan

Tonight’s the night.  (in the words of Rod Stewart)

Starry predicts a huge arse kicking by Vice President Joe BFD Biden.   Marin, in the other corner, had to get clever on us and give us:

I think Biden’s going to do some ass kicking tonight.  Jabbin’ Joe needs to throw a 1% jab, a 47% cross, a faux war on women hook and end it off with a Big Bird uppercut!

No hedging out bets on all of that.  I think Marin might be pulling our leg.

I haven’t heard much about Ryan.  He isn’t Palin, which is a compliment.  He at least has substance. I just don’t like his budget policies or his stand on reproductive rights.  I believe that unless women can control their own reproduction, they have no finacial equality.

So, feel free to comment or not on the debate.  I make no promises about sticking with it.  I might just fade off to sleep.

Candidate Romney plans to escalate defense spending to record highs

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Apparently Mitt Romney’s lack of understanding of  foreign policy  is making him look more and more foolish.

According to that chart, even with a pull out from Afghanistan planned,  Romney would escalate defense spending to levels greater than during the Korean War.  Is there a reason for this?  Perhaps this is the time for folks to start demanding WHY?  Haven’t we accumulated enough war debt?

He needs to sit down with his coaches and get a full course on foreign policy and the defense goals of the United States.  I repeat, he is just woefully unprepared.  He called the President a disgrace in the middle of a crisis where American lives were in jeopardy, he lied repeatedly to the students at VMI, and he disregards discussion of terrorism.   He made a fool of himself in front of a bunch of retired generals.  What next?

That old Scott Brown Tomahawk Chop

What do Jane Fonda, Ted Turner, Jimmy Carter, and Scott Brown’s staffers all have in common?

Remember the political fall out at Jane Fonda when she and her husband, Ted Turn, sat in the stands at the Atlanta Braves games doing the Tomahawk Chop?  Have we gone that far afield that it is now perfectly ok?

If they family says they have an Indian grandmother, then I suppose they do.  Most people I know are proud of their Indian heritage.  Often it isn’t provable because old records and bibles don’t keep track of native people.  At any rate, who is Scott Brown to say who Elizabeth Warren’s  ancestors are?

Of all the things I have seen come up in an election, this one is the most foolish.  The fact that staffers are out chopping smacks of racism.  It isn’t so much the chop, its the attitude around it.

People of different races and religions have often been reviled in this country.  It’s time to stop doing that.  Given the treatment oof American Indians in this country, I would just find something else for my campaign war chest.

Who is Adam Cook?

Hell if I know.  We have been sitting around, as Americans, all grossing and complaining about Congress.  I believe it is called the “do nothing Congress.”  It has a ridiculous approval rating of something like 10%.  So, what are we here in Virginia, in Prince William County, doing about this, if anything?  I need to know who is running.

I think my Congressman is Frank Wolf.  I think I am also about to lose him. Elena will  keep him.  Who is challenging him if anyone?  After much research I discovered that a lady named Kristin Cabral is challenging Wolf.   I think I am in Congressional District One.  What could I possibly have in common with people living in New Port News?  Nada.

Who is Robert Wittman?  I have no freaking clue.  I think he might be the Republican incumbent of District 1.  I have deducted that Adam Cook is the Democratic candidate.

I haven’t heard Jack Sprat from either of them.  No mailer, no nothing.  Where are the Democrats on this one?  Someone is asleep at the switch.  I think its the democratic someones.  It’s always easier being the incumbent.

The question out there, what are the Prince William County Democrats doing about this congressional election?  Nothing?  How typical.

PWC Democrats, if you want to be a viable force in this county, you have to move beyond Lillie Jessie being the featured candidate.

Is 15% capital gains tax fair?

The question becomes, is the 15% tax rate on capital gains fair?  Mitt Romney says yes, because it is all investment money which has already been taxed.  For instance, if you own stock in Exxon, and you get a dividend, it was $.57 on each share you own.  Supposedly, that money has already been taxes.  But has it?  I thought the oil companies were always slithering out of paying taxes.  How about your dividends on GE?  Last year it supposedly didn’t pay corporate taxes.
Mitt Romney doesn’t have an income.   He isn’t paid a salary.  He lives off his investments.  He pays taxes on other things…like capital gains from dividends and from profit made  on sale of investments.  So is it fair?
I say yes.  We all pay what Mitt pays on capital gains.  Now he can do fancier things to protect his assets than I can.  He has more to play with by about a million billion times.  But I am going to defend him…mainly because *I* don’t want to pay more.  I wouldn’t have a problem bumping up the rich cats a percent or two once they hit $500,00 but I don’t  think Mitt has cheated us.
What say you?

Ryan offends seniors at the AARP Convention

According to the LATimes.com, “under the Republican approach to Medicare, the next generation of seniors, those now 55 years old and younger, would be given a fixed stipend to buy health insurance.”

That’s going to take a mighty big stipend.  Are they nuts?  Where are the guarantees?

On Friday:

Mitt Romney‘s running mate, Paul Ryan, was booed at the annual AARP convention after saying that, if elected, their Republican administration would repeal the nation’s healthcare law as the best way to save Medicare.

Just five minutes into his talk at the gathering of the powerful 50-and-older lobby on Friday, the architect of the Republican proposal to change Medicare for the next generation of seniors was repeatedly interrupted as he criticized President Obama’s healthcare law.

Things got worse by the time  Ryan said they would repeal “Obamacare.”  He thought he could explain what he was talking about but the AARP conventioners would have none of that.  The booes persisted and some in the audience shouted that Ryan was a liar.  Some finally marched out on Ryan.

GOP–keeps making it easy!

We are over here cheering on the GOP.  They keep shooting themselves in the foot, keep trying to blame Obama, and then go back for some more ammunition.

Why Moon, what are you talking about?  [eyeing the empty chair]  Every time the GOP takes a hit for their 19th century base, they nudge Obama and Tim Kaine closer to the finish line.     Let’s face it.  Some of this base that GOP candidates are trying appease wouldn’t be pleased unless all Virginia women were barefoot and pregnant and the men folks were wearing horsehair shirts.

Layabout and freeloader: What Mitt Romney really thinks of me….

If the deal wasn’t already sealed, here it goes.

From MotherJones.com:

During a private fundraiser earlier this year, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told a small group of wealthy contributors what he truly thinks of all the voters who support President Barack Obama. He dismissed these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don’t assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them. Fielding a question from a donor about how he could triumph in November, Romney replied:

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.

Romney went on: “[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”
