Del. Robert G. Marshall is proposing a bill that would require some teachers or other school staff to carry concealed weapons in schools.
Marshall (R-Prince William) requested that the bill be drafted in response to the mass shooting last week at a Connecticut elementary school.
Gov. Robert F. McDonnell (R) said this week that there should be a discussion about whether school staff should be allowed to carry concealed weapons to protect children against intruders.
Marshall’s proposal goes beyond the governor’s comments, which were made in the course of a radio interview Tuesday. Marshall would not only allow staff with concealed handgun permits to carry them in schools, but require school districts to designate some staff members to do so. Those employees would have to be certified in gun safety and competence, Marshall said.
Bob Marshall screws the pooch–again
From NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia:
Del. Bob Marshall just doesn’t get it. Despite this past year’s backlash against his “personhood” bill and the now infamous forced ultrasound law, he is continuing his crusade against women’s health and rights. Last week, the infamous anti-choice legislator pre-filed three anti-choice bills for the 2013 Virginia legislative session:
- H.B.1314, H.B.1315 would allow your boss to refuse to cover birth control and sterilization procedures in your insurance plan based on their own personal beliefs. Bosses should not be able to decide which types of health-care coverage their employees should get.
- H.B.1316 is one of the most deceptive bills we’ve seen. It exploits the issue of sex-selective abortion and pretends to support women’s rights. However, it penalizes doctors for failing to determine if sex is a factor in a woman’s decision to choose abortion.
Way to go, Taliban Bobby. Didn’t you and your gang of oppressors inflict enough damage on to the governor last year? Do Marshall and the rest of the anti-choice zealots in the Virginia General Assembly realize that the governor is now know, nationally, as Governor Ultra-Sound? We are the national laughing stock.
Why should anyone’s boss get to decide about what birth control someone uses or if your health insurance covers sterilization?
These are people who want the government out of your business? I think not. Bob Marshall has been an effen idiot since taking office. Its time for him to SDASTFU.
Bob Marshall Continues to Embarrass Virginia
A Virginia Republican delegate who led the effort to defeat the nomination of a gay Richmond prosecutor to a post on the general district court defended his opposition to the nomination, questioning how he would rule in the case of a “bar room fight between a homosexual and heterosexual” and added that “sodomy is not a civil right.”
Speaking Thursday on CNN, Bob Marshall said, “You could preside as a district judge for a marriage of two guys if he wanted to, in violation of the law.” He continued, “Moreover, if you have a bar room fight between a homosexual and heterosexual, I’m concerned about possible bias.”
Marshall makes no attempt to hide his bias. He pronounced to CNN: “Sodomy is not a Civil Right.” Marshall immediately proved that he does want government in people’s bedrooms. Does he worry that in that same fight he described, a heterosexual judge might be biased? I believe what we seek in a judge, regardless of level, is for that judge to be impartial.
The Lady Justice is often pictured holding the Scales of Justice while blindfolded. Wikipedia states:
Since the 15th century, Lady Justice has often been depicted wearing a blindfold. The blindfold represents objectivity, in that justice is or should be meted out objectively, without fear or favor, regardless of identity, money, power, or weakness; blind justice and impartiality.
Sideshow Bob Marshall’s attempt to justify his outright prejudice doesn’t fly in Virginia. He might have sealed his own political fate this time. I don’t believe the people of the 13th district are all prejudiced people who ignore a man’s job performance as a prosecutor because of their own bias against gays. Marshall has called attention to himself nationally. The 13th might just have its own Stonewall uprising next election and I don’t mean Stonewall Jackson, if you get my drift.
Marshall’s minions continued to make their political calls and one poor woman was unfortunate enough to get Mr. Howler on the phone yesterday. Mr. Howler launched into his usual diatribe against the senatorial wannabe claiming that Marshall is a single issue voter . The lady tried to tell him that Mr. Marshall wasn’t a single issue voter and that reproductive rights were just part of the Republican platform. Mr. Howler begged to differ. Finally the woman hung up on him before he could even get to the fact that Marshall had embarrassed the state of Virginia by being openly prejudiced against gay citizens. Most of us forget that he is running for Senate. What a joke.
What will Sideshow Bob do for his next act? I am meanwhile thinking of all the money that is going to pour into the 13th next election to defeat Marshall. Whoever runs against him will have money to burn. If I were a king-maker, I would run an Independent actually. That person won’t need party money. Elena, will you be busy in about a year? Carl? Ann?

Bob Marshall targets openly gay judical nominee: Part 2
From the Washington Post:
Del. Robert G. Marshall (R-Prince William), who is running for U.S. Senate, said he will seek to remove the name of “homosexual activist” Tracy Thorne-Begland from the list of 41 nominees for judgeships that the General Assembly will consider appointing Monday afternoon.
Thorne-Begland, Richmond prosecutor for the past 12 years, came out as a gay Naval officer on national TV 20 years ago to challenge the military’s now-abandoned “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. A former board member of the gay rights group Equality Virginia, he has since spoken out in favor of same-sex marriage. He and his partner, a Richmond lawyer, are raising twins.
The Man-Cave Session: Outlawing Contraception
This particular session is the Romney version. Rachel Maddow hosts a man-cave session so that the male politicians understand female parts, pregnancy and birth control and how legislation that defines life beginning at conception or fertilization will outlaw contraception. It could even make miscarriage suspicious and open to investigation by authorities.
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
Mitt Romney is not the only person who is agreeing to legislation he really doesn’t understand. Most people don’t understand the unintended consequence of their words. Romney is just playing to his base. He doesn’t understand that his words would medically make contraception, which he believes in, illegal. Local politicians like Jackson Miller have voted for similartype legislation. Jackson also supports contraception and isnt aware of the unintended consequences.
One exception is too-long -in-office Delegate Bob Marshall, who originally ran on a term limits ticket when he first became a delegate. Bob Marshall has continually pushed for legislation that defines when life begins. He has sponsored legislation that goes back further than conception to include life beginning at the moment of fertilization or union of sperm and egg. Unlike Mitt Romney and Jackson Miller, Bob Marshall knows exactly what he is saying and doing. He has made a life time career out of attempting to outlaw not only abortion but also the use of contraception. He and his buddy at American Life League, Judie Brown, set out years ago to trick voters and the uninformed into passing legislation that would, in essence, make using contraception illegal. Don’t be caught off guard.
American Life League is located in Stafford, Virginia. Bob Marshall was involved in the formation of the organization, along with long time leader, Judie Brown. ALL is most definitely anti abortion AND anti contraception. If you queston Bob Marshall about wanting to outlaw contraception at one of the meet the candidates nights, he will not deny the charge. He just won’t bring it up and let the voters know his true intentions.
It is time for Delegate Bob to retire. His term limits have expired. Send his opponent Carl Genthner to Richmond. Carl supports the women of Virginia making their own contraception decisions and won’t try to trick them with defining life.
Sideshow Bob embarrasses us again
The Richmond Federal Reserve is flying the rainbow flag to acknowledge gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender pride month. The request was made by PRISM, an advocacy group for the aforementioned groups. The Fed is a private establishment. Its first vice president, Sally Green acknowledged:
“We are flying the pride flag as an example of our commitment to the values of acceptance and inclusion.”
Sounds good to me. Pretty flag, commitment to inclusion. Gay people make and have money. What could anyone find wrong?
Enter side-show Bob Marshall, 13th delegate district who claims that flying the rainbow flag represents
“…a serious deficiency of judgment by your organization, one not limited to social issues.”
According to the Richmond Times Dispatch:
In a letter to Richmond Fed President Jeffrey M. Lacker, Marshall says the homosexual behavior “celebrated” by the bank “undermines the American economy” and is a class six felony in Virginia.
“The Richmond Fed’s endorsement of costly, anti-social, immoral behavior is rejected by 6,000 years of Western Religious and moral teaching,” writes Marshall, who is among the General Assembly’s most conservative members and has long been outspoken on gay-rights issues. “You want the American people to trust your [judgment] in economic matters when your spokesperson celebrates an attack on public morals?”
Leesburg Courthouse and the General….Attorney General that is
Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and his sidekick, Sideshow Bob (Marshall) have quite a dog and pony show going. Marshall asks a question of a controversial nature and AG answers it, thus setting the Old Dominion on a collision course with civil liberties each and every time. Does anyone notice a pattern?
The Loudoun Times:
Loudoun County’s controversial debate over public displays on the courthouse lawn now has the ear of Virginia’s top attorney.
State Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli on Aug. 24 issued an opinion saying Loudoun County can erect holiday Christmas displays on public property as long as the displays represent other faiths and beliefs.
The opinion came at the request of state Del. Bob Marshall (R-south-central Loudoun).
Maddow: Whose Afraid of Virginia?
So far the new Republican regime is off to a rocky start. It seems that the Moderate McDonnell was really a cultural warrior. I wish that hadn’t happen. I was trying to support him.
Unfortunately, Marshall-gate has captured national attention. He has tried to explain his words but having failed at that, he is now blaming Capital News Service for misinterpreting his comments.
According to the Richmond Times Dispatch:
After first blaming himself, Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Prince William, now is accusing a student-run media service of misinterpreting comments he made last week that suggested that disabled children were a form of punishment for women who had abortions.
In a floor speech today, the General Assembly’s most prominent abortion foe said he used a poor choice of words but never made the comment the Capital News Service said he made.
CNS is run by students at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Urging a prohibition against state funding of the pro-choice Planned Parenthood, Marshall told a news conference last week that “the number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children.”
He continued: “In the Old Testament the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There’s a special punishment Christians would suggest.”
In its opening paragraph, CNS reported Marshall “says disabled children are God’s punishment to women who have aborted their first pregnancy.”
Bob Marshall’s Ill-spoken Words
Another article people have to read for themselves appears below, therefore it is posted in its entirety. We are not going to comment from the post. All 3 moderators do not agree on the topic of abortion. Therefore, we will not comment from the post.
UPDATE: Thread titled changed. I just found that too offensive to have sitting there on this blog.
From The Gainesville Times:
Lawmaker: Disabled kids are god’s punishment
February 22, 2010 – 11:27am
RICHMOND – Western Prince William Del. Bob Marshall, R-13th, says disabled children are God’s punishment to women who have aborted their first pregnancy.
He made that statement last Thursday at a press conference to oppose state funding for Planned Parenthood.
“The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children,” said Marshall, a Republican.
