Colbert Cain Rally: Serious message using comedy

Stephen Colbert kept Joe Scarborough in stitches Friday morning as he prepared for his rally with former presidential candidate, Herman Cain. Colbert is using comedy to illustrate the very serious and destructive nature of the Super Pacs which seem to have taken over the election process with little or no accountability. According to the Washington Post:

Calling himself the “Martin Luther King of corporation civil rights,” Colbert said that in a time maybe not everyone in the audience could remember — two years ago — corporations were sadly limited in the amount of money they could pour into political campaigns.

But that changed, he said, when “five courageous justices” on the Supreme Court ruled in the 2010 Citizens United decision that “corporations are people,” that people are entitled to free speech, that free speech equals money and that corporations should thus be entitled to dump as much money as they like into the political water table, provided they don’t coordinate with the campaigns they’re funding.

It’s the super PACs that are funding the flood of negative ads that the candidates all say they hate, even though the Citizens United decision was widely praised by Republicans.

Then Colbert asked the crowd, which included people of all ages and political persuasions, to send a message about super PACs by voting for Cain, who is still on the ballot here, though he suspended his campaign for the GOP presidential nomination. And, somehow, both Republicans and Democrats were charmed.

and…

The event — dubbed the “Rock Me Like a Herman Cain South Cain-olina Primary” — began with a gospel rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” with Colbert harmonizing, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the crowd shouting, “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!”

Colbert sends a very serious message. Hopefully Americans will rise up and grab back their own influence over elections. Super PACs seemed to take everyone by surprise.  Any strong feelings on super PACs?  Perhaps this is an area for common ground.  So far, the Republicans have been more manipulated by Super PACs than Democrats.

Herman Cain press conference at 11 am Saturday

Presidential Candidate Herman Cain has a press conference scheduled at 11 am this morning.  It is expected that he will drop out of the race.  Cain has soared with eagles and is soon to gobble with turkeys…turkeys with too much baggage.

I am curious about all of this.  Ginger White is now the latest woman to come forward, charging that she had a 13 year affair with Mr. Cain.  White elaborated and said it was not a love affair but a sexual affair.  She produced documentation of phone records.  She appears to be very open.

What prompts someone to come forward like that?  She has stated that she has received no money for her story. What is her motivation?  Why would she do something she knows will probably crater his chances for the White House?  Is it all about female power?

I am also curious about him.  I won’t question all his peccadilloes or charges of sexual harassment.  That pretty much speaks for itself and we have all knows people like that.  However, when you know you have baggage and you want to become president, why would you continue, knowing its all going to come out?  I don’t understand politicians who think that they are special and won’t get caught.  The higher the aspirations, the greater the likelihood of exposure.

The media will now crawl all over Ginger White, giving her more attention than she could have possibly ever wanted.  Sadly, they will crawl all over the Cain family, who have done nothing.  Mrs. Cain will stand by her man in public and skewer him behind closed doors.  She might take him to the cleaners or she might not.  Could be, she has known of his proclivities all along.  Some wives prefer to blind eye things like this.  No spouse wants public humiliation, however.  BLIND EYE is no longer possible.

I don’t care if you are a local politician or aspiring to the highest office in the land, if someone knows something, it is almost human nature to want to share that knowledge with others.  That should be a warning to politicians.  If you have baggage, you might want to stay on the porch rather than running with the big dogs,l unless you have a mighty understanding spouse.

The Herman Cain controversy goes on

Mark “Smokin’ Man” Block accused the Rick Perry campaign of leaking the sexual harassment story to Politico. He also blames Politico for using anonymous sources.  He says both the campaign and Politico owe Herman Cain and his family an apology.

It seems to me that the story is old. There are 2 women who filed sexual harassment charges. Period.

A third woman has stepped forward who did not file charges but who felt like she was uncomfortable. Now any woman coming forward at this late date is just setting herself up for misery. She will be hounded by the press and some campaign will attempt to paint her as tramp of the century.

There is a lot of back-tracking and spin going on. I don’t believe the story is important. The handling of the problem is what is going to make or break Herman Cain. Yesterday it appeared he was on edge.

Ann Coulter herself has said the race card is being played. Herman Cain has been quoted as saying that this is coming up now because of the fact that he is black. Cain is no different than any other candidate who is out there and leading in the polls. If anyone sniffs out a weakness, the oppositional research will be all over it. Harry Truman needs to have a private word with Herman Cain: If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I am more concerned over Cain’s knowledge base than I am his woman problem. Many a good president has had women problems–including those we don’t know about.

Herman Cain: Here We Go Again

Geraldo wants an answer to a straight up question. This information does not bode well for a presidential candidate.

Spokesperson J. D.  Gordon dodged Geraldo’s questions fairly clumsily.

I feel a story taking on a life of its own.

According to Politico.com:

During Herman Cain’s tenure as the head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, at least two female employees complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior by Cain, ultimately leaving their jobs at the trade group, multiple sources confirm to POLITICO.

The women complained of sexually suggestive behavior by Cain that made them angry and uncomfortable, the sources said, and they signed agreements with the restaurant group that gave them financial payouts to leave the association. The agreements also included language that bars the women from talking about their departures.

We have no opinion at this point because there are too many missing facts. However, that is certainly not going to stop the speculation.

What I do find offensive is to blame it on Cain being a conservative politician. There were enough bad boys out there the past couple of years to give John Edwards a good run for his money.

Speaking of John Edwards, he keeps getting in deeper and deeper. He is now in criminal court. However, some idiot reporter claimed some old rich woman backed him. Bunny Melon is hardly ‘some old rich woman.’ Are reporters just getting dumber or is it my imagination?

Back to Herman Cain–any speculation here? Please don’t say its because he is conservative….that is such an excuse.
