Just who does Jon Stewart think he is?

Yes, Elena and I love Jon Stewart.  It beats a whole lot of other people we could love.  Sunday’s Washington Post ran an article entitled Just who does Jon Stewart think he is?  in anticipation of this Saturday’s event on the National Mall called Rally to Restore Sanity.  Stewart arrives Monday for preparation.  Very little is known about the event which begins at noon.  No special guests have been announced nor have any artists.  The rally will be broadcast live on Comedy Central.

In some ways, Stewart returns to his roots.  He is a William and Mary graduate, class of 1984.  According to the Washington Post article:

Stewart, 47, has never claimed to be anything more than a guy trying to get laughs on “a fake news program on basic cable,” as he puts it. While that surely understates his case, it comports with his background as a stand-up comic and entertainer.

Two Virginia Jews Talking: Eric and Jon

And who might they be?  Why Rep. Eric Cantor and his buddy from William and Mary, Jon Stewart.  Both men are 47, both are graduates of William and Mary and both are Jews.

Jon leans left and Eric Cantor is leaning even more right than he used to.  They discuss the upcoming election and the differences between Democrats and Republicans.  Rep. Cantor has a new book, Young Guns.  They even spend a little time there.

Think there is common ground?  You will be surprised.   (The title is from Jon Stewart’s words, not mine.)

There are three videos.  1 was shown during the show and the remaining 2 after hours.  Totally fun and I think both men had fun.  Cantor is the Republican whip in the House of Representatives.

Another One Bites the Dust: Rick Sanchez

CNN  issued a statement today saying:  “Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.’   That sounds final.  Rick did not appear on the Rick’s List show today.  It was hosted by his fill in, Brooke Baldwin.  So, what happened?

According to Huffington Post, Sanchez had what can best be equated to hoof in mouth disease:

[He called]  Jon Stewart a “bigot” and saying that CNN and the other networks are all run by Jewish people.

Discussing Stewart with radio host Pete Dominick, Sanchez said that the “Daily Show” host has a limited worldview, and called him a “bigot.”

The conversation began with Sanchez decrying “elite, Northeast establishment liberals” who “deep down, when they look at a guy like me, they see a guy automatically who belongs in the second tier, and not the top tier.

“I think to some extent Jon Stewart and [Stephen] Colbert are the same way. I think Jon Stewart’s a bigot,” he said. “I think he looks at the world through, his mom, who was a school teacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that. Great, I’m so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine.”

Rick Sanchez was not the most loved CNN correspondent.  Who knows what set off his rant on Stewart.  It sounds like it might have had something to do with the Jon Stewart rally on the mall.

Pete Dominick once worked for Stewart on the Daily Show.  To date, Stewart has not made public comment.  I am sure a good spoof is to come.  Jon Stewart often makes self- deprecating ethnic remarks.

Will other networks pick up Rick Sanchez or will he go the way of the dinosaur?

Thanks to El Guapo for providing this audio.

The Rally to Restore Sanity: The Million Moderate March

Jon Stewart made his big announcement Thursday night:

From CBS:

Jon Stewart announced on “The Daily Show” Thursday night that he’ll hold a rally on the National Mall in Washington D.C., on October 30. He showed some of the signs that organizers would be handing out at the event, which had slogans such as, “9/11 was an Outside Job.” He said the message would be to “take it down a notch for America.” The event is called the “Rally to Restore Sanity,” and is for people who think neither Barack Obama nor George W. Bush is Adolf Hitler.

For fans of “The Daily Show,” the news gets better. Stephen Colbert is participating, too. He’s also holding a rally on October 30. It’s called “The March to Keep Fear Alive,” in keeping with his right-wing talk show host persona on “The Colbert Report.”

At one point, Stewart called his event a “million moderate march.”

Cobert, playing on his right wing skit, has named his rally, “The March to Keep Fear Alive.”

Stewart criticizes extremists on both sides. I think that is his message. His appeal is to the 70-80 percenters. Finally, a rally for me.

I will answer that question. No. For some people there is absolutely nothing the President can do that will make them happy. What a shame.

Jon Stewart calls it as he sees it in this video. And as we all know, Jon Stewart has not given him a pass.

The Bush/Obama Conundrum: Blame Obama!

Jon Stewart examines what is known about Elena Kagan. He then moves on to look at the conundrum that Republicans have found themselves creating. It seems that what Bush did while in office now belongs to Obama which takes them back to the point of having to admit there was some bad policy. Like all conundrums, it is hard to spit out, so you will just have to let Jon Stewart say it best.

We are moving from let’s blame Bush to let’s blame Obama.  Seamlessly.

Jon Stewart: Blame Clinton!

I thought I was imagining all the blame Clinton rhetoric.  Now I see I was not imagining it.

I strongly suspect that Fox and Friends is going to be like the tiger who kept running around the tree until they turn in to butter.  I will never get past Gretchen explaining why her job was as important as the President’s.  Never….Never…Never….Any respect, any credibility….gone.

Gretchen as Important as the Prez

I’ve missed Jon Stewart. Maybe I have been off, but I don’t think he has been particularly funny. Last Wednesday was a different story. I was just out of commission and didn’t get it posted.

The more I hear about McChrystal, the more I think it might have been for the best. There were some incompatibilities there. The most shocking part of the segment is Gretchen Carlson’s delusions of grandeur. Now that is scary. Does she really that taken with her own self-importance?

UFB. Totally amazing.

Only Fox aired it….? WTF?

Fox News loves to tout that it was the only news(sic) station to air certain events. According to Glenn Beck, Fox News was the only station to show Israeli commandos being clubbed on the flotilla. Jon Stewart takes him to task. It seems that many other stations showed the identical footage. Will Beck apologize? Will his wife call him out over this ‘non-truth?’

Fox News has developed a reputation for being foot loose and fancy free with the truth. This anything goes with accuracy of facts is hurting their reputation and making them very much the laughing stock. It is one thing to take an alternative opinion, but that news organization needs to tell the truth, then take issue.

Senate Word of the Day: One Sh!tty Deal

Financial reform is something we all agree upon, or do we? We all agree we need it, we just don’t know how we need it or agree on the fix. The Senate Republicans voted Monday night against moving forward with debate on the financial reform bill. I guess both sides of the aisle will have to go back to the drawing board.   Too bad they can’t kick the lobbyists out.

Meanwhile. the Senate continues to grill Goldman Sachs executives over suspected wrongdoing on their part during the 2008 financial crisis. Some of the highlights may be seen below. The senators seemed to fixate on some verbage that boils down to ‘one sh!tty deal.’  Perhaps that really is the crux of the matter.

There don’t seem to be many heroes out there but the big zero is one executive director Fabrice Tourre, who is the subject of a fraud lawsuit by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Fabrice nicknamed himself ‘fab Fab’. This ego driven maniac will not find U.S. Senators quite as taken by him as his girlfriends have been.

One of his emails to one of the 2 women he was dangling contained the following from the New York Daily News:

Six months later, Tourre joked about finding new suckers. “I have managed to sell a few Abacus bonds to widows and orphans that I ran into at the airport,” he writes, adding, “Not feeling too guilty about this.”

In case you didn’t understand the Washington Post’s video from ABC News, I have included Jon Stewart’s take on these Senate Hearings. Jon Stewart made a lot more sense to me. He cut to the chase. The Timberwolf really does seem to be ‘one sh!tty deal.’ Then there is that real sleaze bag, the Fabulous Fab, making his fortune off the backs of widows and orphans.  Stewart mourns the death of the elephonkey.

The GS  people truly are playing with us. According to the Washington Post:

Goldman hired lawyers who formerly worked on the committee to prepare the executives; one of those lawyers once told a trade journal that the best strategy is “long, thoughtful pauses followed by rambling non-responsive answers.” The executives practiced the technique.

At one point, Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) asked Tourre about an e-mail he wrote that suggested he was looking to sell mortgage-backed investments only to unsophisticated investors. But, taking his time, he asked her three times to identify which e-mail she meant and to repeat her question.

“I cannot help but get the feeling that a strategy of the witnesses is to try to burn through the time of each questioner,” Collins responded in an exasperated tone.

These people seem to think they are above the law and far above the rest of us. They sicken me. So many people lost so much; people who trusted banks and financial institutions to do the right thing. Were we all duped? How close to financial ruin were we all? We were on the precipice while these bastards played the system. It wasn’t just Goldman Sachs. Apparently the problem was ubiquitous.

The New American Tea Party: Jon Stewart Interviews Author John O’Hara

Jon Stewart was on a roll last night.  He interviewed  John O’Hara, author of The New American Tea Party. Jon called out John on language.  Other than the language issue (like ‘Obamacare’ and ‘tea bagging’) Stewart recommends the book. If anyone has read it, please report back in and let us know your opinion. Tea Party folks, enjoy:
