Too Conservative calls out LCRC

We hesitated before posting this picture.  We still aren’t comfortable doing it.  However, there is no way to convey the inappropriateness without the visual. We are going to post this montage for 24 hours, with reservations,  and then take it down so as not to further contribute to something we don’t approve of.   Update:  as an alternative, we took the President out of the picture.

Congratulations to Loudoun Insider for calling out the Loudoun County Republican Party for their inappropriate Halloween montage featuring President Obama with a bullet hole in his head.   According to Too Conservative Blog:

LCRC Goes WAY Too Far

By Loudoun Insider

This cartoon montage just arrived as part of an LCRC email blast.  I am no fan of Barack Obama, but putting up a photo of him as a zombie with a bullet hole in his head????????????  Like him or not he is the legitimately elected the President of the United States and Commander in Chief of our armed services in a time of war.  THIS IS DISGUSTING AND SHAMEFUL.  Someone should send this to the US Secret Service.

WTOP.com printed that Governor McDonnell went on record opposing the depiction of such violence and said forcefully that it wasn’t to happen again:

Gov. Bob McDonnell, through spokesman J. Tucker Martin, called on the Loudoun GOP to “apologize for their actions, and to immediately ensure that such imagery is never used again.”

Virginia GOP Chairman Pat Mullins said such an image “has no place in our politics. Ever.”

Loudoun County GOP chairman Mark Sell said in an email response to The Associated Press that the graphic was “a light-hearted attempt to inject satire humor into the Halloween holiday.”

Chairman Sell needs to grow up and exercise some  judgement if that is what he thinks.   Remember how appalled most of us were when some reporter threw a shoe at President Bush?  Many of those who were outraged weren’t Republicans.  They were Americans who had seen their president threatened.   I think the same sentiment leaps out at us here.

The Obamas and McDonnells meet briefly–FEMA Funds discussed

The above video explains the damage in neighboring Culpeper, Virginia.  The main damage was done near the epicenter in Mineral, Virginia, 35 miles from Culpeper.

Richmond Times Dispatch:

Gov. Bob McDonnell and Virginia First Lady Maureen McDonnell met privately with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for approximately 10 minutes this morning in Hampton in what was described as a “friendly visit” by McDonnell spokesman Tucker Martin.

The conversation ranged from Louisa County disaster aid to a park designation for Fort Monroe to the focus of the president’s event — veterans.

McDonnell and the first lady welcomed the Obama’s to Virginia and the governor thanked the president for making the hiring of veterans a priority, according to a brief description of the meeting by Martin.

Dodd-Frank, a year later…and the debt ceiling

What’s to not like? This questions is usually answered as ‘job killer.’ I have been thinking about this ‘job killer’ on every street. I have been told that if income taxes go up just 1% on millionaires, it will kill jobs. Instead, I am supposed to like having the budget cuts on the backs of the middle class and on seniors with both medicare and social security.Read More

Death of Osama helps Obama reposition in Virginia

From the Washingtonpost.com:

The poll provides a view of the impact of bin Laden’s death in a state widely viewed as a bellwether for Obama’s chances for reelection nationally. The interviews were already underway when Obama delivered the news late in the evening of May 1; 677 were conducted before the announcement, with 503 afterward.

Against all five potential GOP contenders tested in the poll, Obama stretched his margins after the death of bin Laden. In a hypothetical matchup against former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, for example, interviews before the bin Laden announcement showed voters splitting 48 percent for the president and 46 percent for Romney. Afterward, Obama edged ahead, 51 to 44 percent.

Against former Alaska governor Sarah Palin and businessman Donald Trump, twin 19-point Obama advantages swelled to 31 points in interviews conducted in the three days after bin Laden’s death.

Still, big vulnerabilities remain for the president, the first Democratic presidential nominee to win Virginia in more than 40 years. More than half of all Virginia voters are dissatisfied, even angry, with the Obama administration’s policies, and a vast majority retains a bleak view of the economy. Those opinions did not change with bin Laden’s death, leaving open the question of whether, or how long, the spike in Obama’s fortunes will last.

The poll reveals the movability of voters in Virginia, which firmly established itself as a new battleground in 2008. Two years later, in the tea-party-infused, low-turnout elections of 2010, Virginia swung in the opposite direction, ousting three of the state’s six Democratic congressmen.

What will it take for President Obama to claim Virginia?  What will keep Virginia blue?  How will the outcome of this election affect the state election in 2013?  Is the Prez’s bump artificial, a flash in the pan, or can he sustain it?  Why does killing Bin Laden increase Obama’s popularity?

President Obama on an Allowance?

Many of the talking heads are now commenting on President Obama’s10 day trip to Asia. The purpose of the trip is to attempt to open up jobs in countries like Indian, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, etc.  The president is taking a business entourage  with him on the trip

Already misinformation is spreading about the cost of the trip. One rumor that surfaced and went viral is the the trip will cost $200 million per day which includes presidential protection. This figure is being vehemently denied as outrageous. The report that 34 war ships are accompanying him is also being denied by the Pentagon. News sources all report the disclaimer by the Pentagon spokesman:

“I will take the liberty this time of dismissing as absolutely absurd this notion that somehow we were deploying 10 percent of the Navy, some 34 ships and an aircraft carrier, in support of the president’s trip to Asia,” Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said. “That’s just comical. Nothing close to that is being done.”

The Sun News reports that both Glenn Beck and Michele Bachmann spread the cost  rumors as fact. The foreign press is adding to the rumor mill.  Bachmann, in particular, should be held accountable for spreading misinformation.  Beck, we expect no better from.

Other critics are up in arms that during a recession, the president would leave the country again. Many feel he should be staying home (and off the golf course) and tend to domestic business.

Leaders in the last century and in the 21st century have traveled abroad. Teddy Roosevelt was the first president to leave the country. Presidents should be able to set their own agenda and as long as they are doing the business of the country, this travel should without criticism and certainly without government officials lying about the cost. Good will and jobs are excellent goals to seek.

Democrat Pitbull Snarls over BP

Elena and I have talked extensively over this oil gusher.  The impact on the environment is almost too horrifying to fathom.  It still is happening.  It hasn’t been contained.  Perhaps we are numb.  We have avoided publishing a thread about it.  It’s horrible.  It’s horrible in an environmental Armageddon sort of way that leaves one speechless.

James Carville, the Democratic pitbull has some words to say on the subject–some words we might not expect. He is a Louisianan.  He is a Democrat, first and foremost.  This issue should transcend all politics. It is an American horror story. I feel he needs to be heard:

What is a Progressive Radical?

According to the Washington Post article, The $1,300 Mission to Fell ACORN, James O’Keefe (pimp player)and Hannah Giles (hooker player) did not even know each other personally when they hatched the plan to nail ACORN. They had exchanged emails and talked on Facebook. Giles was studying journalism from a conservative point of view at Young America’s Foundation and had done a study on O’Keefe’s sting on Planned Parenthood. O’Keefe III describes himself as a progressive radical. Now what the hell is that? Is that a new name for Tea Partier?  O’Keefe’s work can be found at the Big govt website.

According to MSNBC :

Though O’Keefe described himself as a progressive radical, not a conservative, he said he targeted ACORN for the same reasons that the political right does: its massive voter registration drives that turn out poor African Americans and Latinos against Republicans.

“Politicians are getting elected single-handedly due to this organization,” he said. “No one was holding this organization accountable. No one in the media is putting pressure on them. We wanted to do a stunt and see what we could find.”

Obama Heads to the home of the Bulls and Bears

President Obama heads to Wall Street this Monday to urge financial reform. Financial regulatory systems need an overhaul to avoid the abuses and failures that led to near economic disaster last year.

Most of the focus this past summer has been on health care reform which is also part of our national financial woes. However, the banking, mortgage and insurance industries need to come back to being blips on the radar if serious reform is to take place and future disasters are to be avoided.

According the Washington Post:

He will urge members of the financial community “to take responsibility, not only to support reforming the regulatory system but also to avoid a return to the practices on Wall Street that led us to the financial crisis,” an administration official said Sunday.

Building up to that message, Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner said recently that “greater urgency” is needed to push through regulatory reform and insisted that “fundamental change is necessary.” National economic adviser Lawrence H. Summers said in an interview that “this crisis will leave a legacy of strengthened regulation.”

Interestingly enough, while the job market hovers just under 10% unemployment, and retail spending is still flatlining, the stock market has gone up on average 45% since March. September which historically is the poorest month for stock gains hasn’t been that bad. Since September 1, the Dow has risen nearly 300 points. According to Bulls and Bears (Fox News) the average Joe 6 pack is just poking a toe back into the water and is investing in the stock market again after the melt down that began last September.

So who will howl about financial regulation? Probably those who are being regulated and need it the most. What are some reforms that contributors on anti see a need for?

[ UPDATE:  TEXT OF PRESIDENT OBAMA’S ADDRESS TO WALL STREET]

President Obama’s Address to Students on the First Day of School

President Obama’s text from the speech he is giving to America’s school children, from Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA has been posted at whitehouse.gov. The entire speech can be found HERE.

Here is an excerpt from his speech:

But at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world – and none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. Unless you show up to those schools; pay attention to those teachers; listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and put in the hard work it takes to succeed.
And that’s what I want to focus on today: the responsibility each of you has for your education. I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself.

Every single one of you has something you’re good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That’s the opportunity an education can provide.

Maybe you could be a good writer – maybe even good enough to write a book or articles in a newspaper – but you might not know it until you write a paper for your English class. Maybe you could be an innovator or an inventor – maybe even good enough to come up with the next iPhone or a new medicine or vaccine – but you might not know it until you do a project for your science class. Maybe you could be a mayor or a Senator or a Supreme Court Justice, but you might not know that until you join student government or the debate team.

And no matter what you want to do with your life – I guarantee that you’ll need an education to do it. You want to be a doctor, or a teacher, or a police officer? You want to be a nurse or an architect, a lawyer or a member of our military? You’re going to need a good education for every single one of those careers. You can’t drop out of school and just drop into a good job. You’ve got to work for it and train for it and learn for it.

I orginially posted the speech. It was just too long, so I went back and linked to it. Please take the time to read it, especially if you have children in school. I can’t think of a better message to give to any kid on that first day.

It is the first day of school that really sets the stage for those other 180 days. If you miss the first day, its like buttoning up your shirt not matching the right button with the right button hole. You have missed the beginning.

I applaud President Obama for taking the time to welcome the kids back to school and for acknowledging the importance of doing well. The first day of school is the best time for such an address. In my opinion, he hit a homerun with this one.

ENTIRE SPEECH

The speech reportly lasts around 18 minutes.

Fox Trots Out More Freak-Out Lies @5 PM Tuesday

Glenn Beck should be baying at the moon by 5 pm on Tuesday, September 8. Apparently he plans an hour long show dedicated to the endoctrination of America’s school children. He feels our republic is under attack:

To help us interpret all this insanity, perhaps its time for a good laugh from Keith Olbermann, who I rarely watch. The only thing left to do is laugh. There is no chance of reason here.

The sad thing is, too many people cannot think for themselves and rely on Beck, Hannity, and Limbaugh for their political foundation. Perhaps they would be better off with O’Reilly. He at least is a scholar and on occassion make sense. The others are third rate actors.
